Black Swan

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:21 pm

I won't read anything here to risk spoilers, but I just wanted to say that I am going to fight with nails and teeth to see it at TIFF this year. That is the only movie that I am actually enthusiastic about on TIFF's program. I hope Black Swan is just as good as Pontypool and Fish Tank from last years TIFF :celebration:

Just don't go in thinking its a "horror" film like I assume the people above did

Haven't seen it yet.
Someone recommended it to me and at first I was skeptical - a film evolving around Swan Lake seemed a bit cliche. But I read the plot outline and saw the trailer and thought it could be alright, especially since Aronofsky did it (I loved The Fountain). So I might try and see it. As a female I'm not seeing it for the girl on girl action and as a dancer I'll probably have more interest for the dance scenes :P I get scared easily though so I need to find someone to watch it with me :D

Saw a trailer for it last night when I went to see 127 Hours (which is also great, btw) and it looked pretty good. Will try to see it if I can, but I can't always make it to the cinema here. I loved Requiem for a Dream, and I've been meaning to see more of Aronofsky's films for a while now...

I loved Requiem and Pi, so want to see it. I thought that the title alluded to that theory or philosophy (wish I could remember it better!) - something about hundreds of white swans may enforce a hypothesis/belief, but find just one black swan and you beliefs/theories/way of seeing things is shattered and has to be revised. Can't remember where I heard that though - but that sounds more Aronofsky than Swan Lake lol

Either way I look forward to seeing it :)

You're probably talking about Karl Popper and falsifiability, although I have no idea if the film has anything to do with that.

I just got back from seeing Black Swan, and I will say this: Aronofsky has created another incredible film. I loved it, everything about it. And that's not just the Aronofsky fan boy in me, either.

The climix of the film was just amazing. The
Spoiler
transformation was done really well. And that shot when Nina had finished the dance, holding the pose with those wings. Quite a site.

If it's anything I'm imagining, I'll be sure to see it. I like me some psychological horror. Yum.

Ah, Darren Aronofsky. Requiem for a Dream was interesting. Maybe I'll check it out.

Oh... that guy. Maybe I wont watch this movie then.

I saw it a couple weeks ago, and loved it. Acting was great, and I loved the way the plot
Spoiler
kept you wondering what had happened in her mind and what didn't. I'm a svcker for those types of stories.

Also, Natalie Portman+Mila Kunis=awesome.

I wouldn't call it horror at all. Though it was rather unnerving, yes.

I'm quite interested in it, haven't watch it though. Based on the synopsis, it reminds me of 'Perfect Blue', which is also a psychological movie about a new actress.

I just watched it, it was pretty intense. You could definitely tell it was one of Darren Aronofsky's. I liked it.

Just seen it.The movie is absolutely spectacular, one of the best I saw this year. It only has one problem, without spoiling it, I think it relies too much on six, just for the sake of it, to cause controversy and sell some extra tickets. The "black swan" thematic should have been embarked by different aspects and not just six

Natalie Portman is my favourite (and only) woman actress, so I'll watch this film just because of her. Still my favourite Portman character was her as that kid in Leon.

I've been told it's pretty much ballet and lisbian love scenes. I'll pass. :P

And random disgusting scenes where she imagines peeling her skin off. :P

That scene with the finger, eww...

I realize this might not be the largest group of people that saw this movie, but I just got back from seeing it and I was absolutely speechless. My hands were shaking for ten minutes. Did anyone else see it?

I wanted to see this movie and in theaters if its still in the local theater this weekend. I heard it was great.

Great film carrying on Darren A's film tradition of people obsessing over things and letting it destroy them. Pi, Wrestler, and Black swan, all very similar in their themes.

And that girl on girl scene was hot. :hubbahubba: Even better is that they're friends IRL. If porm wasn't free, it might be worth the admission price.

Good movie to see w/ the girlfriend, probably the only ballet theme movie I'd watch, that and Suspira.

It was a pretty damn fine movie. Not for everyone mind you, but easily better than 90 % of the crap that enters theaters.
