BlackReach(Wow, just wow!)

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:44 pm

As I play through Skyrim I found lots of different looking scenery. It goes from mountains to cave, sun to snow to blizzards, to I think even rain, to swamp land. But when I found BlackReach, I gotta say that I felt like I was playing an entirely different game. This place is not only a gold mine(literally had more mines than you could care about), but it is so visually pleasing. Skyrim has got to win some sort of award for this thing.

"Wow" is right. "WoW" to be more precise. That's where I think I've seen giant mushrooms before, in a place called Zangarmarsh.

If you explore all of it, you will see rooms and areas that have nothing to do with the game, just out in the middle of no where and no point other than to just look at it.

I literally just spent almost 2 hours gathering 20k in loot and have no idea how to sell it, and then holly $#!t I find out that I am not just here with the Trolls and Robots, there is a freakin town with humans who want to kill me. This underground thing is so huge.

I wonder if the mines and chests will fill back up over a period of time? Other mines have filled back up, but not after 2 days, it was a lot longer.

Have to say, it's my favorite so far too! I even collected the 30 nirnroot. Went and turned those in, and the lady calmly discussed the roots with me while a dragon flew around overhead and everyone screamed, running in circles. By the time we were done chatting, the dragon had given up and flown off.

Anyway, I love that place. Might have to create a house mod in the style of it.

Blackreach is a win-win factor however you see it. It's the pinnacle of recovering Morrowind's exotism, and the definitive proof that Bethesda didn't lie in that matter.

I was just amazed the first time I entered it.

Is there an easier way back into that place? The surface elevator gates close when you leave and I'm not too fond of passing though multiple layers of the same ruin more than once. <_<

I'm not sure. After completing it, and returning there after a while, all the shortcuts I opened were closed as well. :( Had to go through the whole thing again just for a side-quest.

If you're on the PC, you can try to type this in the console: "coc blackreach".

I have been collecting those too, didn't know they were for something. I got 29, I will keep looking for a later quest.

There are several entrances to Blackreach i know this because i accidently stumbled upon it again, doing a side quest in another ruin that lead to a staircase.

I think its the same ruin where you retreive the sword for Mjoll the Lioness but i could be wrong i have been in quite a few.

The elevator at Tower of Mzark works fine for me, not sure why yours is closed.

It reminds me of some of my favorite places in the Force Unleashed. (Felucia in particular)

Also, I had a pretty strong reaction when I first entered this place. I've got a little thread running here :P

Yes, find the "Great Lift At Raldbathar" it takes you directly down. You can fast travel to it. You see it a little up and to the right of Raldbthar. But you have to unlock the gate from inside the cave, or you can't use it. But once unlocked you can use it as much as you want.

No doubt you're right, WoW was just the first in-game experience of giant overhead mushrooms for me. The movie Avatar also reminded me a lot of that same zone in WoW.

I'd heard about it on the forums, but when I first saw Blackreach I was still stunned.

Yeah, I was surprised when I went there today. After just doing the theives guild, and reading that guys book on Falmer I thought, "oh god, Blackreach is going to be a dark disgusting dwaven cavern that lives up to its name and full of Falmer Gloomlurkers." I was pleasantly surprised, with a healthy supply of soul gems mined from there as well.

But did anyone else encounter a lone giant down there? I was really confused. I just snuck past it.
