Blacksmithing thread

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:30 am

So all of us have now seen the Orc Picture, I have to say a big congratulations on Beths work!

To the point, that is one sixy baddass looking sword he's holding. IS that the work of the new blacksmithing ability/job.

So how do you think forge should work? Should you be able to shape a sword with your anologue stick? Or will you get lots of templates, but get to choose what material it's crafted from. This thread is for all things blacksmith!

I bet blacksmithing will turn out to be disappointingly shallow.

I hope the system is very creative, as it would add a feel of accomplishment when you create your very own sword that represents yourself.
Like making a 7foot buster sword of doom.

I am trying to be more optimisitic. I would hope you have some templates to work from (maybe for different parts of the weapon: blade, pommel, etc..) so you can have some customizability. And dependent on your skill level what materials you can effectively use.

Last I heard (And please dont ask me for sources) Blacksmithing will follow closely with the system we had in FO3.

I just assumed that was Orcish armor, and an Orcish sword that he was holding.

But, yeah, I hope smithing is fun...
It'll probably be with interchangeable parts that you switch out on templates and such.

I feel like the look of the sword will depend on the material it is made out of, whether it is a dagger/shortsword/longsword/claymore, and your skill level in BSing.

I'm a champion BSer. I told my neighbor that no, I didn't mow that one strip into his lawn and he totally bought it.

I hated that! You either had to carry around two or three of each weapon, pay someone to fix it, or constantly go back to your house if you kept more of the same weapon or armor there.

Aslong as it isnt some kind of mind numbing mini game like Fables blacksmithing.

I'd like to scour mines and caves for blacksmithing material like mining silver veins for ore and finding other bits and peices then bringing it back to the forge and creating a weapon that i can customise the look of depending on what mats i have.

Ah, that slightly saddens me, I didn't really favor that system much, but hopefully it will be more advanced in creation, or atleast have some non-premade options of the parts.

A system like minecraft's, properly modified, would make a rather neat system. It's could be quite intuitive. A sword is a hilt followed by two blades, a dagger is a hilt followed by a blade, a spear is a two hilts followed by a blade.

How ever they do smiting, I hope they let you experiment and find combos that work without having to find a recipe.

i sure as hell hope there will be some level of shape and edge customization. but what i see being implemented are blueprints for weapons . but still truely being able to forge your own blade and make its shape the better your skill the easier it is to pull off elaborate designs that ladies and gentlemen of the forums would be my ideal smithing.but as i said earlier i see weapons blueprints being the most likely thing.

I was hoping you got some resources and could shape your own sword, axe whatever with your cursor, but that might also be too hard to implement. :banghead:

Personally I would prefer a crafting system similar to the MMORPG games out there. Lotro in particular,

I just want to forge a katana with any material I want.

Also I only plan on perking weapon related perks in both Smithing and Enchanting, sure do hope I can forge a Katana stronger than any of the artifacts.

This. I don't see it being as good as the Two Worlds 2 CRAFT system. Even though it's a bad game in general, the crafting system on there was perfect.

I really doubt it will be anything more than getting the correct materials, selecting a recipe, with more recipes unlocked for your skill.

The sword the Orc is using looks to fantasy for me. I doubt we actually shape the sword. At the most, there will be discoverable/teachable templates around the world for new shapes.

I doubt it will be anything more than. Retrieve 6 Iron Ore. Smelt. Select sword through a screen. Poof! It's in your inventory. Maybe it will be more than that though.

I am hoping it will be something something nice like being able to find template foreach part of the weapon, pommel, hilt, guard, blade and then yiou can make it out of whatever material. Then I wanna enchant it to a level of pure badassitude

I want to forge a sniper scope on my long sword. In all seriousness I hope that it is really awesome but unless they add more metal materials in TES I think it will be rarely used and shallow. I hope I am wrong.

I would love to see some actual crafting (where you actually go through the motions of creating weapons), where smithing is a skill that you can improve, and all that stuff. But in the end, I expect nothing but a menu-driven creation system. Just like potion-making in Oblivion.
