Blade or Blunt

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 4:52 am

OK, so I understand that statistically (did I spell that right?) the two weapon types do pretty much the same damage at the right levels... However I wonder which one do you prefer, do feel more confident in your ability with one or the other or just prefer the style, I am asking this since it is often a dilemna which one to pick for me when starting a new character.

Blade, absolutely. Blunt has just never suited any type of character I've wanted to play.
Hack and smash isn't really my style, I'm more of a sweeping katana type. :toughninja:

But perhaps I'll try a blunt-specialised character sometime. I think I'll pick all the things I never normally use- blunt, heavy armour, armourer, marksman. Should be interesting.

I like blunt. Which might seem strange as I like to play magic-orientated characters, and the general consensus is that mages use small blades, but I just love the look of a mace, in particular the steel mace. When in close combat i'd rather deal with enemies quickly and pound them into dust with a mace or axe than swing a blade. I prefer raw damage. I also generally play aggressive characters both when using magic and melee, and blunt weapons tend to be more aggressive than blades.

I prefer the looks, selection in game, image and style of blades.

Blade! cooler, more traditional, and i just think its all around more versatile in comparison. Blunt just looks to clunky.

I see, I was loathe to add a both option, as people who have a moment of indeciesion (I know I spelled that wrong but bare with me) might click that option, I know I would, but thanks for your opinion :)

Blade all the way, unless one day I play a paladin and do KOTN using a mace. I dunno I love how the big claymores look on the back of my characters, I just wish there was bigger ones like FFVII style proper badboy sword, so when I walk around towns they see my sword and say: " ok I'm not [censored] with that guy "

The game does not treat the two fairly. It is very biased towards Blade. Some of the best weapon rewards in the game are blade (eg Goldbrand, Umbra, Ebony Blade). Statistically the extra weight of a blunt weapon and slower speed is not adequately balanced with much higher damage.

Which one I prefer depends on the type of character. However, the game prefers blades.

The game is also unbalanced in favor of one handed weapons vs two handed weapons.

Agreed with Savlian. The game trys so had to lean me toward blade. However, I usually choose (and voted above for) blunt. Axes are always cooler. Blades have always seemed too military for most of my characters. Even my Paladins draw on some history when I choose blunt for them...priests in the medieval ages involved in battles (there were some) were sworn not to draw blood by using blades, so they walked around beating skulls in (in the holy name, of course) with a dented mace. Swords were for knights, officers in the military, etc, as they were too expensive for most to have, thus militia usually used cudgels as well. As for axes, they just look awesome.

Renee finally makes a clear choice for blades. I only have one character so far who goes for blunt, and he only carries a club!

It's a hard choice because I usually pick both and dedicate a lot of time on my character to train both equally. But I opted for Blade.

Although funnily enough, my two favourite unique weapons in Oblivion were the Mace of Molag-Bal and Volendrung. They just looked vicious.
I've just had a really exciting though (although I'll likely be disappointed). I wonder if there will be some type of flail in Skyrim, or failing that a flail mod for Oblivion.
That would get me back on Team Blunt for definite!

Blade, they always make me feel more... noble. Although, my Melee character at the moment uses an Axe.

Definitely Blade. I love the look of them, and I feel way more comfortable using them. Whenever I try Blunt it just doesn't work out.
