Blades and Paarthanax #2

From previous thread (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1279829)

I just had a second conversation with Paarth in a new game, and a few things stuck out... Most important he wasn't included in the war council of the humans during the Dragon Wars, despite teaching them the voice, despite calling them friends, those people did not trust him. According to his own words.

Also Paarth indulges in conversation with you, just because he likes talking, he even wants you to talk in the Dovah Tongue with him, because he's missed it. He tries to limit himself in that, because removing small temptations makes it easier to remove big one's... Still he obviously still gives into temptation when it presents itself to him. Now small temptations aren't necessarily the gateway to a path of mass destruction, but he does himself give you reasons to doubt him... Still no reason to kill him imo, at least wait a few years and see what happens. However, a lot of people keep saying he hid himself for 3000 years... That's nothing, Dragons are immortal, time may flow at the same speed for them, but it doesn't have the same impact.

He is still older likely older than any of his own kind so relatively speaking he has been alive for a long time for their average life expectancy given that they all were killed while back. It's a glass is half full or empty type of thing for all the friendly dragon's did no one trusted them and instead they got wiped out. (Thats not exactly good if you turn it that way around)

Now some other things:

Esbern says he believes you to be the last Dragonborn, making this pretty much their last chance to permanently kill any dragon ever.

The Greybeards make mention that you may not be the only Dragonborn as the exact reasons why there are Dragonborn are not known. Both are unlikely to know exactly why your special. And the humans wiped them out once before so it isn't like it is actually that hard.

Eingar says that the Blades went on a genocide spree of dragons when on Tamriel. So obviously dragon killing is a big thing for the blades. He also says that the blades now want to continue doing this with you. Now both the Blades and the Greybeards seem to have a talent for overstatement when it comes to each others actions and points of view, but it does speak heavily against the blades that such a thing is even possible... Genocide doesn't seem like a good thing in most situations.

Well technically these Blades have very little connection to their past versions (3000 years is a long time for humans) so their commitment seems odd. (Genocide is not a good thing period. If at all possible this is definitely not what you would want to do pre-emptively)

Neither Delphine nor Esbern ever swear allegiance to you. They say to guide and protect you... They can't protect you in a physical sense anyway, you are much more powerful and refusing to kill Paarth is refusing their guidance.

Like said earlier in this post, Paarth wasn't even trusted by the very people he taught the voice.

Like I said earlier that could be easily read two ways. (Not to mention the emperors themselves protected Paarthurnax as mentioned by the Blades, so eventually people did trust him or didn't want anymore senseless killings)

Paarth was there when Alduin broke free, yet did nothing. There is no evidence of a direct confrontation between the two of them. Paarth did not summon the Dragonborn, he could not know the Dragonborns path. Why wait on that mountain, if you aren't going to do anything when Alduin returns?

Alduin is special he cannot be hurt normally (Only dragonrend can make him vulnerable)(There is even a global variable for it) He also certainly seems to help you when your fighting Alduin, and he wanted you to find your own path just as his friends of past did by throwing the Elder Scrolls and breaking time itself. First dragons like mountains apparently and second that is were the Timey Wimey thing was located he needed to be there confirm that his theory was correct as no one believed him)

Still personally I can't see a good reason for killing him, but I do think the Blades have perfectly valid, albeit misguided, reasons to ask for his death and are well within their right to ask it. Especially considering they never took an oath of allegiance towards you. They followed you because it felt right but never formalized it, it's like they are your friends and friendships can be broken.

The Blades think they have a valid reason when it is really like pushing a long reformed criminal in front of a speeding train because there is always that risk and some guy outside said that you shouldn't trust him and you should push him onto the tracks. (This is a highly lopsided tram decision problem)

Also don't really sound like friends when it start with "-- A friend" (Delphine's note) after she steals your item, then "I'm not your enemy. I already gave you the horn." to "If you don't trust me, you were a fool to walk in here in the first place". (Well I didn't really have a choice other than to come here "friend")
Then "I'll explain what I want when I want, got it? You'd already be dead if I didn't like the look of you when you walked in here." ok friends don't say or do this typically and this certainly doesn't build trust. The friendship with the Blades was broken when Delphine started talking.

I think Akatosh made you Dragonborn to do the metaphysical equivalent of smacking Alduin's hand away from the cookie jar until after dinner is ready. So we can't be sure that, if Paarthurnax was willing to re-establish dragon tyranny, that Akatosh wouldn't just send more Dragonborn to hit HIM too.

Paarthurnax isn't as special as Alduin. We can absorb his soul, he's much, MUCH easier to kill. So it stands to reason that, if Paarthurnax was ready to lay tyranny upon Tamriel once again, he could very well be killed- unlike Alduin, who is so powerful that it is literally impossible to kill him without Dragonrend, which breaks through just enough of his immortality- and even then, far, far too much for your average human to kill. It takes someone who can battle Alduin on a level far beyond that of a Tongue.

We keep saying "Paarthurnax is immortal, he can just outwait you then kill everything", but we seem to forget something else- the Dragon War was won WITOUT Dragonborns (AFAWK). Paarthurnax isn't super-powerful like Alduin. He's just a regular dragon. Maybe he's a coward who's going the only way he can to live. But for 3,000 years Alduin has bene missing, and Paarth never made a move to conquer, even though there were a lot of dragons still around then. Even so, Alduin is the Major Threat because of his immortality- regular mortals cannot kill him. At all. Only the Dragonborn can do the deed. Regular humans CAN kill Paarth (not permanently, but let's face it, if Paarth is getting resurrected it's because Alduin's back, which means that they have a hell of a lot more problems than Paarthurnax).
