Blades in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:40 am

This information is not new to me, but I finally have the balls to ask because the information as to why is something I do not know. I tried to search the forum with keywords such as "Blades", "The Blades", "Esbern", etc. But I couldn't find information regarding my question.

200 years after the events in Oblivion, how is Esbern and the other mentioned one alive? Of course before that, my question is - Why are The Blades still active?

Again, like I said, I honestly don't know and couldn't find it. I would've assumed they'd have disbanded considering there were no more Divine to reign. And given that hypothesis, it makes me wonder why Esbern and the other are still alive.

Blades are rather formidable, and seem to have a collective identity as a group. I am sure they have not stopped recruiting other people to some varying degree, but their barely clinging on as of right now. Perhaps they are trying to keep the name of Talos alive, perhaps they have been seeking The Dragonborn. We'll find out what exactly their deal is soon enough, I don't think we have enough information as of right now to put in a concrete answer without speculation to some degree.

The Blades were a pervasive intelligence network [censored] paramilitary organization who refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new regime. It's only natural that the Medes in-turn should be skeptical of the Blades, if not outrightly hostile.

I should be surprised if there isn't a Blades-led rebellion somewhere in the back-lore of SR.

EDIT: The auto-censor hates Latin words. It's apparently offensive to graduate Summa [censored] Laude or to carry around a Vade Me [censored].

Well I am sure any speculation is fine, provided the person has read any of the official books/etc since. I should've but didn't.

And to add, it seems as though the Blades really only care for Divine Right rulers, not self-made ones.

Titus was just a man, who united Cyrodiil while the Blades did nothing. The Blades did nothing to calm the 400 years of violence of the 2nd era, until Tiber Septim was crowned.

Well, to be fair, I don't think the Blades as we know them really existed before Tiber. There was just that lone Akaviri Dragon-Guardsmen, the Chevalier Renault.

The Blades, at least officially, were created after Numidium was destroyed at the end of the Second Era, in order to collect the pieces back together again and restart it. Of course, the old Akaviri bodyguards were around, whatever their number, and the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Remanada (insofar as you want to trust it, of course, it's hardly an unbiased source :P ) says that they intentionally stayed in hiding to keep Cyrodiil from being overrun entirely, until Cuhlecain and then Talos showed up for Renald to support - one person with the right mythic role can achieve quite a lot, after all! Presumably the Blades are doing the same thing right now; when you have to stay in hiding and manipulate matters from the shadows, not knowing just when or where the opportunity to complete your task might come from, too large of numbers can really be more of a hindrance than a help. So Esbern and Delphine, maybe a few others in different parts of Tamriel, but those few will make sure to continue their legacy for however long it takes.
