Bleak Falls Barrow Quest Bug

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 12:10 am

Hi Everyone,

First of all, Skyrim is fantastic game. Initially I thought: damn, it's just a better Oblivion. Every minute spent in the game made me more involved in the plot and surroundings. That is until I've reached Whiterun and tried to progress the main story with Jarl Balgruff and his wizard advisor, Farengar (Bleak Falls Barrow quest). The jarl sent me to help Farengar, but he doesn't want my support until the jarl himself speaks to him. The problem is the jarl followed me immediately after I accepted to speak to Farengar and he stands in the wizard room. So now I'm stucked with the quest progress. Farengar was supposed to send me to Bleak Falls for dragonstone (I already have it from previous subquest but I can't simply give it to the wizard, he refuses my help asking to visit Jarl on his throne and the jarl is right next to me) but nothing happens. Before you ask: no, I don't have another save - I use only one save file (now I know it's wrong) and autosaves are in jarl place after I accepted to speak to Farengar.

I have 8 hours play, don't force me to start the game again please :( Reinstalling the game or restaring PS3 not helping. Any fix possible? I even tried to place the stone in Farengar pocket by pickpocketing, but it has 0% chance...

Try going through all the current dialogue potions with Farengar -- listen to them entirely and see if a new dialogue option shows up.

Thanks for your answer and willing to help. Unofrtunately it didn't work. Actually I spoke with Farengar before I talked to the jarl (I'm kind of completionist in RPG games - need to search all passing rooms etc.) so maybe this is a problem? All dialogues are already grey, I've just tried again but nothing new shows up. Farengar behaviour doesn't help either, he ended conversation twice ;)

Yep - same thing's happening with me too D:

Bleak Falls Barrow happened to be the first area I explored - I did the Golden Claw quest first, and didn't even realize I had received a Dragonstone out of it as well. It wasn't until hours later in the main storyline when I spoke with Farengar that I realized I already had it. He gave me the quest to go to Bleak Falls Barrow to retrieve the Dragonstone, and there was no dialogue option to simply hand it over to him. I tried to speak with him again, but there's no new dialogue options and he just yells at me to hurry up and get to Bleak Falls Barrow.

I haven't been able to find anything useful on any other forums, other than just starting over (ugh) or loading up a previous save. Either of those options aren't looking very fun for me though, as I'm 25 hours into the game and going to Bleak Falls Barrow was the very first place I explored.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What happens if you actually go to Bleak Falls Barrow, enter it and then leave and return with the Dragonstone? I've got a bugged quest in the Companions line. You're supposed to meet Skjor at the Underforge at night. I wait until night, he walks to the Underforge entrance and tells me that Aela will be here shortly and then we can all go in. Unfortunately, Aela is just standing either on the back porch of Jorkksvar or in the back by the training dummies. She just stands there with a torch in her hand. And now Jorkksvar is locked and requires a key 24 hours a day.

I have the exact same issue, Farengar just continues to yell at me about getting the dragonstone when it's 25 weight is sitting right in my hands.

As for returning to Bleak Falls Barrow, it doesn't work. I've gone back there and run through the entire place again to no avail, the game still does not recognize the fact that I already own the dragonstone. Bethesda please patch this, because I don't want to have to start over.

This is not your fault and it should be fixed, but still... how can you not have multiple saves? That's lesson one in RPGs.

Odd. I had done the Bleak Falls Barrow before talking to the Jarl and when I got the quest prompt from Farengar, my character just handed the stone over.

That's the lesson I've learned from Skyrim. Believe or not, I've never encountered a blocker like this before in any RPG I played (Deus Ex, The Witcher, Dragon Age, Mass Effect or older).

That's what piss me the most, people have random problems with the game - noone from my rl friends encountered the same bug as me, but on the other hand one of them has another blocker. Most probably the game is so complex that there are some factors that made my problems and you have different factors before you hand the quest in to Farengar.

This won't help, but just for reference, I also did the golden claw quest first, and when I spoke to Farengar, the option "I already have the dragonstone" came up. I installed the game after the second patch came out.

I think we're all beginning to doubt that the second patch has helped people who started playing before it was released. I really wish they'd implement a 'reset quest' option to move objects and NPCs back to their original states.

Abandoning and restarting a quest is the best idea for all the bugs in 90% of the quests in Skyrim. Some of the bugs doesn't allow you to progress in the main quest line, which is sad in my opinion.

you probably already know this, but if you have the stone already (that's the way it worked out for me too) as soon as you talk to him with the Jarl and he sends you to find the stone, you say back to him.. "You mean this stone?" and he takes it right there on the spot.

So it looks like it bugged up on you somehow and my experience is that if it is bugged in your save (bookshelves, racks, horses, whatever) it stays that way for the rest of the game.

Least this is fairly early in the game. :(

My Solitude horse still goes home to Riften every time. Even when I buy him new in Solitude.

Same thing with me, i have the Dragonstone, im lvl 17 and like 25 hours in the game i have save games since 4 hours in the game and it is broken since the beginning, i haven't seen a dragon in Skyrim except for the one at the beginning, i have more than 50 locations discovered, Dark Brotherhood member, College of Winterhold member, thieves guild member, Stormcloaks member, Bards College member (i think) and a bunch of stuff done, crap collected and enemies killed.

Farengar keeps telling me to get him the 25p Dragonstone that i already taking too much space in my inventory.

I hope Bethesta fix this in the next patch. I first installed the game after the 1.02 patch on PS3.

This is a great game, even though the melee combat mechanics are extremely mediocre compared to Dark Souls I'm having a great time.

The only good thing about having to start all over is that i can join the Legion instead of the Stormcloaks which happened by accident. If this is like New Vegas i want to have all the endings one savegame away.

PS: PLEASE FIX THIS BUG SO WE CAN FINALLY COMPLETE Bleak Falls Barrow QUEST!!!!!!!!

Try starting the stormcloakes or imperial faction, they both require you go to BFB.

Cool, i'll try it tomorrow. I just restarted with a complete new character and the Quest ended successfully.
