Blender 2.49b

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 10:54 pm

Hello all I have Blender 2.49b and I was wondering what else do I need to start modeling and texturing in the game (the reason I ask is I don't know the install order or the version numbers I should get for everything)

So can somebody please help me by posting links and telling me which versions of what I need?

Thank you very much!!!!!!!

you'll need photoshop =/
or a paint program that can open .DDS files.

for impoting/exporting .dds (textures) you can use photoshop with the nvidia dds plugin (google it) or you can use paint.net which has dds support and is free.

to import/export .nif files in blender you need http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2726&sid=fbdbdb2f6181c01bd2856e93225becf3.

http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2626&sid=fbdbdb2f6181c01bd2856e93225becf3 is essential too, imo.

I open Blender and it says Python 2.6 is required to use Blender 2.49b press OK to go to the download page.

Python 2.7 is out as welll so which version of Python should I get?

Also I read the Python has to be installed before Blender so I uninstalled blender and now I am stuck what do I get and do?

just follow the http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2726&sid=fbdbdb2f6181c01bd2856e93225becf3 i already posted.

For just converting photos into textures paint.net will do just fine.. for making adjustments to textures, adding filters etc then nothing beats Photoshop.

Wow lol I feel stupid I thought it was just a download site lol Thank you I didn't even see

"Installation

This version of the scripts should keep working with newer versions of Blender 2.4x and Python 2.6.x (but not Python 3.x.x). At the moment of writing this, the following were used during development of the scripts:

?Be sure first to log in as administrator!
?Download and install Blender 2.49b (32 bit), use default settings, except select "Use Blender's installation directory" when asked where to install Blender's user data.
?Download and install Python 2.6.5 (32 bit), use default settings.
?Download and install PyFFI 2.1.5, use default settings.
?Download and install the Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5, use default settings."

before lol thanks!

So I would think I should get both right for seperate instances?

"Use Blender's installation directory"

Wasn't an option there was

Use Aplication data directory (requires Windows 2000 or better) (I used this one)

Use the installation Directory (Ie location chosen to install Blender.exe).

I have defined a %HOME% variable, please install files here.

Which one do I chosse?

Sorry for the triple post but people are reading this and I sisn't want them to think that nothing changed if they are posting sorry!

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have everything installed and working properly I followed those instructions on that page and it is fine Thank you very much for all the help.

For future reference in order to get it to work sign in onto you Admin account and right click on Blender 2.49b and click run as a message will pop up hit run and then another will pop up uncheck the box saying

Protect my computer and data from unnathorized use...and so on

then click run then go through the installation and install it in this option:

"Use the installation Directory (Ie location chosen to install Blender.exe)."

and then with the other programs you must also use the Run as option (some do not have the option those just double click on it will work fine)

Hope this all helps!

I would like to have some tutorials so I will be going on google and Youtube but if anybody finds any good ones can you please post them here?

Thank you again for all the help Everybody!

Try to find tutorials specifically for 2.49b as a lot of tutorials are for earlier versions of Blender and things have changed a fair bit , this isn't such a problem if you know your way around blender pretty well, but beginners are generally confused enough already.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_8OV92HLPY is very good as the 'Blender Noob to Pro ' manual on UV mapping may leave you feeling confused due to the verbosity and comments pertaining to various releases of Blender that are of no use to you.

You can download http://www.gimp.org/ for free as used in Ira's tutorial.

I would also recommend http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=super3boy&aq=f which are ideal for beginners due to their simplicity and are very easy to follow. You xcan skip the first couple of minutes on each video as these are dedicated to promoting a website and get a bit repetitive if you watch all his videos.
