Blender experts, help!

I've been working on modifying Reaper's Animated Lute, and part of the project is to make a harp instead of a lute. (I like celtic lap harps!) I found a harp mesh, imported it into blender, resized it and placed it over the lute to make sure it was alinged correctly, then removed the lute. My issue from here on is importing and UV mapping. I need to remove vertices and such, so it will import, as well as create a UV map for the harp.

I did manage to get it to import once, but it didn't have a UV map attached, so I couldn't do anything with it in nifscope because of that. I've been at this -all- day, just for this little harp. I have the blend file with it all aligned, with a new import, separating the harp components into separate meshes, rather than merged (I thought that may help with the vertices problem)

I'm basically a blender idiot, trying to beat my way through it via banging my head on the keyboard. Atleast, that's what it feels like!

Can anyone help me get this into a functional .nif format? I'd love you forever!

Once I get this, all I need to do is figure out a way to edit the scripts in the mod to allow it to be used on other NPC's (Like companions)

I'm not much for giving advice, but there's some great tutorials listed on http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/Category:Tutorials. Look under the "B" section.
