Blind eye...being blind in First Person View

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:03 am

It'd be pointless anyways if you consider the third person option. And yes it's a bit realism is trumped by gameplay. It's also kind of why you can't see your legs in first person.

And if I'm not mistaken TES doesn't have a limb system no? Or even more indepth like eyes or fingers. Although we know a little dismemberment will be possible in Skyrim.(Not like Fallout though. The philosophy behind Fallout violence is over-the-top.)

I think this is one of those instances where gameplay trumps "teh immershun" by a landslide.

EDIT: Seriously...can you just imagine the firestorm on these forums? "OMG I didn't shell out for a 52 inch plasma TV to just use half of it!!!one!!1!! I'm gonna sue Bethesda for half the price of my TV!!1!!!"

Ahaha, really though, this. :P

Unfortunately this is just going to be a character creation menu option, not something that happens to you if you get hit in the eye by an enemy sword, etc.

In any case if something like that were implemented, then it makes more sense to have your 3D features immediately cut off if you are playing on a 3D monitor.

Then if you lose your other eye, the monitor goes dark until your character gets killed. you could save a lot on expensive hardware by playing the whole game blind.

While we're at it, how about if you get hit by an electrical blast from an enemy mage, the screen displays a pattern of rotating lights that triggers an epileptic seizure.

I would suggest that it should take away any depth perception, but the game's going to be flat anyways, so it wouldn't change anything.

There's no indication of sarcasm in this post, so I'm assuming that you haven't heard the following: Skyrim is VERY mountainous.

Well as the title says do you think having a blind eye will limit your vision on that side. I don't think so personally, but that would really bump up the immersion.

What do you think?

BTW I don't agree with this but i was just wondering if anyone did and obviously not lol.

its not like there would be a dark patch on the screen because your blind its just that you would have a smaller view and it would be stupid if they put it in there. Even if they had time i would rather have them work on dlc right away. Such a feature is useless.

I'd recommend you reread what I said.

Depth perception is created by viewing objects from two different angles at the same time. It's what makes things look 3D and allows you to judge distance. Skyrim may be a 3D game, but it will be displayed on a flat 2D surface. Unless you're actually viewing it in 3D, of course, though the game is no being designed with 3D in mind.

I thought this topic would be about the blind spell :sadvaultboy:.

And no, I don't think it should limit your vision. Though I would actually accept a lowered perception... If attributes still existed that is ,
another thing that could work is some kind of "choose your advantages and disadvantages"-system.

And as for realism, I'm all for realism to a certain level, like eating food for example, because that also encourages certain types of characters RP-wise.
Things like half vision certainly provides a challenge and a different experience when it comes to gameplay but it also takes away from the game in an irritating way
since it probably isn't possible to emulate in a realistic way.

If they implemented 3D they could turn it off if you choose to be blind on one eye :hubbahubba:

I'd actually thought about this, but in a more ironic vein: They could increase "teh immershun" by supporting stereoscopic 3D viewing- which they could then use to increase "teh immershun" by limiting you to a non-stereoscopic view to simulate your one-eyed character. With the dark comedic bonus of wondering how many people went out and bought accessories to enable 3D view so that they could turn them off and play exactly as the game currently will play- except, you know, with more immershun because it's accurately portraying their one-eyed character's lack of depth perception. :D

I like this, perfect way to say that this is a great way to screw a game over and turn it into a simulation. The very closest you chould ever come to being blind is the concussion you got in Fallout, IF head trauma makes it into the game.

EDIT: I KNOW! Let's sell a vest that plugs into the console/ computer via a USB cable filled with explosives. The game won't work unless you have it on and if you die, it explodes! That would be really immersive!!

Well, for console players at least. PC guys will get the advantage of being able to mod it out. In any case, too much "immurshun" ends up making the game waaaaaaay too much of a chore, bore, and an annoyance.

Seriously? What's the point? Not being able seeing the world fully, it sounds really ridiculous. Sorry, I can't even respect that kind of an idea.

Honestly where are people getting this "half the screen black"? Close one eye, you don't loose half your vision.

But you do lose a noticeable part. Of course, you don't have peripheral vision in a game anyway.

Also, I have slightly reduced peripheral vision on my right side. It's annoying enough in real life...don't want it in my damn video games.

Actually I've always wanted a TES style open world RPG with a Zatoichi style character. :P

No, no... I'm totally serious; I am.
Hey I am not making this up.
