Blind eye...being blind in First Person View

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 11:47 pm

Well as the title says do you think having a blind eye will limit your vision on that side. I don't think so personally, but that would really bump up the immersion.

What do you think?

BTW I don't agree with this but i was just wondering if anyone did and obviously not lol.

I think this is one of those instances where gameplay trumps "teh immershun" by a landslide.

EDIT: Seriously...can you just imagine the firestorm on these forums? "OMG I didn't shell out for a 52 inch plasma TV to just use half of it!!!one!!1!! I'm gonna sue Bethesda for half the price of my TV!!1!!!"

Being blind in one eye isn't all that different than having both eyes.
I had to wear an eyepatch for a while, you just lose a little peripheral vision, which you don't have in a game anyway,.

I would suggest that it should take away any depth perception, but the game's going to be flat anyways, so it wouldn't change anything.

Just tape a sheet a paper over half your screen. There's your immersion, without ruining the game for anyone who wants their characters to look badass without dumb features.

Nah, I don't feel like losing 20% of my visual field.

Honestly where are people getting this "half the screen black"? Close one eye, you don't loose half your vision.

And...? Put on a medieval-style helmet, then compare your field of view to the screen in a game with helmet eyeslit outlines "for teh immershun."

Reality is inconsequential, if they implemented this losing one eye would black out half the screen. ;)

I've often said that what when people say they want reality, what they really want is an idealized version of reality that is really anything but.

Both of your eyes cover the same area for the most part.

You would just lose peripheral (Or however you spell that) vision on one side. Something you don't even really have in a video game.

Thank you, thats exactly what I said in an earlier post.

I don't want this feature, but people were over exaggerating it.

Indeed. One need only see a few actual hideous injuries then read any thread on wanting "realistic" damage/gore to see how far apart reality and "realistic" gameplay are.

And you'd lose depth perception, like I mentioned in my earlier post. But since the game is being displayed on a 2D surface, you're not going to have that anyways, either.

Indeed, so without making one part (not necessarily half) look fuzzier or blackening it out, I don't see a way how they would portray this and even that solution is quite pointless and not as it really is.

I think I'll go blind in both eyes, and just play with a black screen. I guess I'll have to rely heavily on my ability to hear, and maybe the game can have text at the bottom describing what you have heard, like in a text based game.

Sound: ROAR!

Text: You have heard a troll nearby. Prepare for an Attack.

Action: Swings Sword like a maniac in the direction of the sound. AAAAAAAARGH!
