Blizzard!

I was thinking it would be awesome to have random occurring blizzards in the snow ravaged regions of Skyrim. they could occur any where that there is snow; from the lowlands to the mountains.

I would like to see some sort of damage system from being in one. So unless your a Nord or have warm clothing your going to take on ice damage. But i would like to have a decent warning to if there's one coming. like you can hear and see it in the distance before it gets to you. That way you can run, find shelter, use fast travel, or prepare for it.

In hardcoe mode i would like to see the damage alot higher from it so if your not ready you will die fast. if your a Nord that's not ready you will take damage but at a slower rate. so basically no matter your race your going to have to be ready of suffer the consequences

Damage from the weather? No.

Yet another idea for the "immersive but would render the game no fun" bin.

I think if it's hardcoe mode, you should take ice damage and if it's regular mode you should get mixed up and lose your direction (maybe be more vulnerable to ice) or something like that.

Blizzards are ok, but I don't think you understand how they work.

They wouldn't occur in a narrow valley, would be dampened in a forest etc.

Basically you needa big open area where storm strength wind can accumulate, which pretty much means low open land, mountain plateaus and on the side of a hill/mountain facing the storm.

EDIT: In the event of a blizzard, I want the map and any direction marking tools to become disabled.

I haven't think about this. But actually, it would be cool as hell. And even probable, I guess, seeing what they did in Morrowind with ash stoms.

By the way: when I read the title, I inmediately thought about WoW...

Blizzrds, yes. Damage from Blizzards? No. That's a little too far.
I liked the heavy snow system in Bloodmoon myself. Where it got so bad sometimes that you couldn't see 5 feet in front of you. That's pretty realistic enough for me.

"The creators of wow" ~they need to trademark that slogan.

I would not mind damage from extreme blizzard conditions. PCs with cold protection spells would take less or no damage.

But I think that not every snowstorm should be that intense.

This ^

I don't know what to think about the damage thing the more I think about it, though. Perhaps it just has some additional effects. For instance, it could make you much more vulnerable to damage for a short time, particularly cold damage. IDK.

I think this would be a great feature for hardcoe mode. Should certainly leave the other difficulty settings alone, of course, seeing as some people wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much.

Bad weather could give you penalties though, but no damage IMO. Instead, the blizzard could lower your resistance to Frost by 50% or so.

It would be cool for the compass to get screwy and for you not to see where you are on the map in a blizzard, in addition to stat penalties like Malavok said. Also would be cool if it disabled Fast Travel because it would be too hard to travel in the storm accurately. Of course they would only last a few hours in game time so just a few minutes. Plus you could hunker down and wait it out.

It could also disable sprinting and/or add a penalty to stamina.

We know ice spells give the enemy this icy surface.
If you spend some time in a blizzard, this icy/frosty surface effect could appear on your skin, armor, weapon, etc. Should be pretty easy to do as the effect is already there. Just add a script to it and make it dependent on time on a certain weather type.

That would be pretty cool I think. Plus, some stat penalties in conjunction with that ice/frost effect. So at the same time you look icy/frosty, you have a certain stat penalty.

I actually would really enjoy a hard core mode with stuff like this. I think some other things that would be cool would be hypothermia; if you were swimming, and you get out into frozen wasteland... you will have your fortitude or something drain until you build a fire and find shelter. Also maybe some altitude effects; nothing permanent or extreme but if you steadily climb the mountain you are fine, but if you fast travel from a lower altitude to a high one, your vision momentarily blurs or something.
