I have started working on a character that uses hand-to-hand combat, and I was wondering if block benefits my character if I do not use a shield. Also, what perks would benefit me, if any? I realize some of the perks are described to only work with the shield. I would assume this is true, but I would still like to know for sure.

I don't think any do. Are you planning on using a shield while going hand to hand?

I doubt it. It seems like it would be kinda ridiculous to try. I wish there was still some hope for people trying to use hand-to-hand. A combination of destruction and hand-to-hand would be cool; unfortunately, that wont be happening in this game.... Maybe next time.

I forgot about that.... I haven't used hand-to-hand much since the previous games. I guess that answers my question.

the block skill and perks DO work with weapons and torches.

EXCEPT:
Elemental Protection,Shield Charge, Deflect Arrows
You need to use a shield for those perks

In all seriousness, though, I haven't decided whether I should use a shield or not. Anyone know if this will actually work well?

Edit: Also, does anyone know any other beneficial skills. Obviously, the heavy armor increase, but what else?
