Blocking Perks + two-handed weapon: Question!

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:33 am

I have been playing as heavy armor/two-hand for a while, mainly because i wanted an offensive build that could still block big attacks.

My question is:

- If I take the first two perks in the Block skill tree (+ Block %, slows down time when you block power attacks), will they still work with a two-hander or do they only apply to shields?

- Does the "Power Bash" perk only works with shields, or can I "bash" someone with my two-hander?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Block % works without a doubt, hell even as a 2h i'll use the defender potions on some fights. Not sure how much more effective power bash is to normal bash, maybe its in just how much they get staggered by the bash. I'm pretty sure the time slow mechanic will work when parrying but not 100%.

The 20% more effective blocking should work with 2-handed, but I'm unsure about the slowing of time perk which I believe require that you use a shield. The powerbash perk will probably work with 2-handers. I may be wrong though.

I`m not sure if blocking works with 2-handed, I mean I tried it the following way: I had 2-handed weapon equipped, I let a draugh just keep on attacking me while blocking.. then in the exactly same situation I chose the 20%+ blocking perk and repeated the same thing. I was unable to notice any differences in amounts my health decreased when it attacked me.

Would be interested to know about this for sure because other than that 1 experiment I haven`t tried it out, and after it proved uneffective I haven`t tought about it.

Wait, this is really interesting. So Block works with a two-hander? Does it raise the skill when you block with it, and does the skill make it more effective?

Can't say for sure but I know my blocking increases with a one handed sword. I time my blocks with incoming attacks and it usually deflects the whole attack, knocking them off guard to counter.
I guess some of the perks would work with swords, as you can increase the actual stat through swords as well.

Yes, blocking works with two-handers and you can level the skill with them(press the left trigger on Xbox), Its actually the trade-off: 2h deals less damage then dual-wield but lets you block incomming damage. Albeit the block is less effective then with a shield (doesnt block as much damage), but you do a lot more dmg then a 1h/shield combo would.

Im pretty sure the Block % works as well (you wouldnt notice 20% boost if your block was low level already), its the PowerBash and the time slowing im really curious about.

Time slowing works for sure and it's brilliant, you'll never miss to bash or dodge a power attack again, highly recommend getting it if you run a 2h build.
Power bash works aswell and is just what it sounds like, but haven't used it much beacuse it's a massive stammina hog

Anyone know if certain perks that specifically mention a shield work, like the elemental resistance while blocking?
