Blocking Question

Quick question, do you level your blocking skill by blocking with a two handed weapon, or is it just with a shield?

Yes you do, but apparently the Block perks do NOT apply to 2 handed weapons, which makes no sense. =/

Two handed blocking increases the Block Skill.

Some Block perks do apply to weapon blocks. Including shield wall, and I think bashing.

That isn't what I've been hearing from other people.

Wait a minute. Can somone clarify this? I thought the block perks applied to 2-handed weapons. Certainly quick reflexes works with 2-handed. Can someone confirm this for me please?

Blocking with a torch is best. You can swing while blocking with it and set people on fire.

Has this been confirmed? I was led to believe the right hand side of the block tree does apply to two handed blocking.

"Players can block with two-handed weapons and the perks Shield Wall, Quick Reflexes, Power Bash, Deadly Bash, and Disarming Bash all apply to two-handed weapon combat" on Skyrim Wiki.

This is wrong, unless 1.2 broke this.

I hope that's true, but I don't see how you can deflect arrows using a 2 handed weapon? Maybe the percentage bonus affects weapons too, but I think most of them are for shields only.

Block perks apply to blocking with weapons UNLESS the text of the perk specifically refers to shields.

The main blocking perk and all the ones to the right that have to do with bashing work with 2 handers.
The ones which clearly state "with a shield" do not work with two handers.

That is one badass orc in your avatar.
OT: I'm sure perks would apply to two-handed weapons otherwise... why use them?

You level blocking by blocking, by pushing people away with your block and by bashing. I don't think most of the perks works without shield, but the slow motion perk defenently work. I play with only 1h and sometimes with a torch like above.

Haha, well of course =)

I'm glad I've been proven wrong. Now on to investing some perks in not getting pommeled by other 2-handers. I hate how vulnerable you are with a 2-hander, but I love swinging it! :goodjob:

I answered in an edit to my post above. But that may have been missed.

Shield Wall, and Bashing work with a Two Handed weapon.
