Blood effects

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:48 am

As seen in certain screenshots, the blood does look considerably better than it did in Oblivion. However, I have a feeling that the blood will still do the magical "disappearing act" that it did in Oblivion. By this I mean, the blood will stain your weapon for about 3 seconds, and then slowly disappear.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be great if blood could get on clothing/armor as well as your weapon (seeing as their will be finishing moves), and that the blood would actually stay there unless you were to perhaps whipe off or clean the object that it is on?

I know this is a very VERY minor idea, and is in no-way a "must have" but it would still be very cool, in my opinion, if the blood was permanent unless removed by the user.

More longer lasting better blood decals would be nice, dont see the consoles having enough resources to support it though. Maybe in the ini file?

I believe a mod for Oblivion did something like this, correct me if I'm wrong. At any rate, this is what I'd prefer to see:

Blood doesn't wash off that easily, not if it's not done right away. So I'd say the bloodstains on your armor should stick around untill you either swim or something to wash it off, or if it's gotten really bad, pay someone in town to clean it for you or spend some time to clean it yourself. I liked how in Dragon Age you were covered in blood after battle, it doesn't need to be taken to such an extrme of course, but I want my character to look like he kills for a living, not as someone who spends hours every day polishing his armor to a shine.

After a while you'd call me the Red Baron

Hey Dragon Age did it quite well, so i dont see why not. It would add that little something. And i dont need any of this "The engine wont be able to handle that...thats to much work...thats to much coding crap." We have the technology!!!

Are you kidding me? Stab a rat in dragon age and you are covered in blood, how does that make sense?

This is one of the big reasons I made my thread about gore. That bugged me so much. I was playing on console at the time too. I would of been happy if it just stayed there longer but man. . . I understand the fps it takes up is a lot but they could of done better. On consoles the game runs fine if you download it and clear cache every week.

Ugh, that's exactly what I thought about right before I read your post, the whole "swimming to wash it off" thing. While not overly-realistic, it's still close enough, easy, and a hell of a lot better than nothing! But, if they added in a washer/polisher mechanic for NPCs so that you could pay them to clean items for you, that would be amazing!

Maybe when you repair your gear as the first part of maintenance is proper cleaning.

As long as it's done tastefully, I'm all for it. Dragon Age: Origins had a decent idea going, but I don't want a pet needed around at all times just for the purpose of cleaning my armour off after every fight.
Better yet, if armour and weapons, respectively, showed damage/wear overtime (in between repairs) I think that might be (possibly?) a decent idea...

I'm tyring to arrange the details in my head, and I'm thinking it wouldn't be too complicated to mod in, but I'm not that good with quest creating and scripting, so I may be overlooking a key issue.

I'd like the option to turn it off.

Yeah, Dragon Age had the right idea, but it obviously didn't work quite right.

I would prefer visible wear and tear on your weapons, so you know when they need a repair.

In Dragon Age, the blood effects were way overdone and the ensuing conversations looked ridiculous.
