Blood pools

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:14 am

When you kill someone blood should pool around the dead body. Or at least around the wound. It would make the gore look better without being too extreme.

It would look more real if you finish someone by stabbing them and they explode. Yep, totally real. Gotta have it fallout style

consider they made it clear it be less gory then Fallout...don′t expect more then a bloody weapon and maybe a few blood stains on the ground.

Yes, unless killed by blunt trauma or magic.

I agree, too many games are missing this basic graphical feature. It shouldn't be like Fallout, with limbs flying everyone, but there should be the occaisonal dismemberment, with the more likely cut or stab mark appearing on the model of your enemy, and a pool of blood forming below. Magic, on the other hand, should do things that are a bit more... creative.

I'm thinking gore level in this game will be good because it's darker and grittier, and it isn't Fallout.

Why do people always say "Don't make it like Fallout!" Of course it's not going to look like fallout, they have guns, you have melee weapons, they aren't going to explode from a melee weapon. I would like something along the lines of AC, that's the right amount of gore without going over the top.

Eh, this is one of those little details you don't really see in games that don't feature guns. Every example I can think of (GTA, Saints Row, Hitman, etc.) have shooting.
If someone has a spells and swords fantasy example of games that feature people dead in pools of their own blood than feel free to enlighten me. My point is though in games like Elder Scrolls, this is an overlooked detail that developers most likely don't give much thought on. If blood is on the ground, it's usually part of the environment (i.e. Knights of the Nine when you see everyone dead in the Anvil chapel and there's blood everywhere).

There should be more gore than in Oblivion, yes. Killing someone with an axe or a sword is bloodier than shooting someone with guns.

True. Except high powered rifles and shotguns at close range.
Fallout wasn't that fake... Guns do blow peoples limbs off... They just made it a little over the top so it wasn't disgusting. IF they made it realistic it would have been obscene.
The 9mm detonaing people was fake though...

ON TOPIC:

Should there be blood pools? Yes.
Will there be? Not bloody likely. (see what i did thur ?)

sorry to spoil it for ya, but early talk already confirmed it will be less gory then Fallout 3, which would suggest it won′t be a huge step above Oblivion.

Well, your skull would explode if you took a giant Warhammer to the face.

Keep the gore level down. A little blood is good, but not too much.

Let the modders handle all the mature content, that keeps the game accessible to the young'uns but still gives the option for gore etc.

Should kids really be playing a Elder Scrolls game to begin with?

BGS doesn't make games with a rating in mind. They make their games have a certain atmosphere that's appropriate for the overall game. Skyrim by definition will be more brutal and bloodier than Oblivion was. Mr. Howard already stated this in the GI Podcast. Plus, as the poster above stated, TES is typically geared towards a more mature audience. I'm sure plenty of children will play it regardless, but they wouldn't be a target group.

I don't necessarily need blood splattering on my screen. However, I do want the feel of combat to be intense and brutal. No battle should turn into a snore fight like it was in Oblivion. There should be severe risks if you make a bad mistake, so one should always be alert.

Actually, a pool of blood pouring out of a dead corpse is the definition of "extreme gore", no?

I don't think making it realistic would've made it any worse, I've seen real gore and that can be rather disturbing, but when you know it's animated it just doesn't have the same impact, not on me at least. I don't see why they couldn't make it realistic, if I hit someone in the face with an axe, he won't be winning any beauty pageants (spelling?) any time soon.

I think the blood pool thing looks a bit silly, really. I'd rather the "blood spray" effect (seemingly confirmed in a GI screenshot) land on the ground and remain there for a while, than for a uniform puddle to seep rapidly out of my dead enemies. It would also become ridiculously complicated (or just ridiculous) if corpses are able to be dragged around like in Oblivion.

pageants (spelling?)

That's the correct spelling. :)

I'm a fan of a system where you can choose the amount of gore you want to see.

yea, right... keep the game lame and cencored for everyone but PC players. The average age for gamers is around 35 right? Since the console market makes up for so much more of the gaming industry right now that would mean there there are more mature people playing consoles than PC's... probably not percentage wise but still. For a mature game, blood splatters, blood pooling and dismemberment is fine.

What do you mean "keep the game lame and censored for everyone but PC players?" How was the game lame and censored?

Blood and gore adds nothing to the game in my opinion. I'd rather have improved performance, and better optimisation than what i feel is little more than 'low class' (for lack of a better word) eye candy.
