Blood spatter in trailer

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2009 6:02 pm

Recently rewatched the trailer and saw while Dragonborn is fighting the dragon it's blood was visible after each strike,Do you believe they will keep this in the game or what? (I hope so)

Some games have a toggle for the blood splatter, this might be the same.
I've seen screenshots with blood all over the blade, so there definitely is blood.
Not sure if they're going to have blood splattering on the screen, though.

Im sure it will be, but it probable dissapeares after a minute or two. It's nothing that hasn't been done in many other games, but it is a nice addition.

I believe so; Todd stated that there will be more blood/gore than Oblivion, but it won't be silly/ridiculous like in Fallout. So yes, I bet we'll be seeing blood spatters often, it'd make 3rd person look a lot more interesting ;)

Oh god, that game had the worst blood effects EVER.

SPOILER:

Seriously, when Duncan stabs that 1 guy during the Warden initiation, just 1 little stab and his whole body from his hair down to his boots gets drenched in blood..

Dragon Age seemed to be taking a Quentin Tarantino approach to blood splats. I disliked Origins because I could only play for about 20 minutes before the game slowed down to a virtual crawl- it kept reloading all the dead people covered in blood in every area each time I traveled to another place. I turned the feature off, and the game ran just fine.

I don't mind some blood/gore, I would expect there to be if I ran a sword/dagger/fireball or other weapon through someone. I only want a large amount if, say, a body part goes flying off. Like someone's head or leg.

(I'd half expect 'It's just a flesh wound!' to come out provided it wasn't the head, but you get the idea.)

Hopefully not fallout level's of gore on the screen, or you'll never see anything! I'd rather keep the 'hopefully heavy' gore kept in gameplay, I mean if its on the screen is it meant to be in your charters eyes? although that would maybe add a element to contracting disease if blood went in your characters eye's (or wounds) cause I always thought just fighting a enemy and having the possibility of catching there disease pretty lame and woefully random.

I hope the blood doesn't just fade into your sword like in Oblivion...though admittedly it looks and kind've cool and is fitting with Dawnfang/Duskfang

They are working on adding dismemberment to the game, so you can be pretty sure the blood splatter isn't going anywhere.

I mean, it's in the trailer... so, apparently it's in now... why would they take it out?

Blood decals can't be permanent. I'm sure i don't have to tell you why. If your on the PC though you can change the fade time(ini) to much longer than 30secs.

Why would they take out something as trivial as blood splatter? I could not see anyone at BGS going, "No, you know what. The blood splatter, stupid. Let's take it out." Of course it will be in...

My problem with that is that it seems like the game just drenches your entire character in blood, rather than just adding a blood decal on the parts actually sprayed by the blood, which is how it should be. But in the trailer, the blood only covers the parts of the player that actually get sprayed by it, so it shouldn't be a problem in Skyrim. And yes, I think we can assume that the blood splatter seen in the trailer is indeed in the game, what is still up for debate is how much we'll get in terms of other instances of blood and gore, like whether we'll see dismemberment or visible wounds.

It has to fade at some point, aside from the performance reasons, if your weapon gets covered in blood and it doesn't fade, eventually it would be entirly drenched in blood, which you'd probably want to clean off even in real life, but unless Bethesda is going to add an animation for cleaning blood off your sword, having it fade away at some point is probably the best compromise. I just hope the decals don't fade as quickly as in Oblivion, I don't want to see them dissappearing right before my eyes before the fight is even over.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was an animation for wiping blood off your sword after a fight instead of the fade? Sure would make you feel like a bad ass. Then again, there are other types of weapons that the animation might not work for. Might actually look kind of silly wiping blood off of certain types of weapons. :hubbahubba: I don't know though.

Does he do it with every weapon type? Also, he kind of shakes the blood off some weapons doesn't he? It's been a while since I've played one of those games.

Yea, Ryu swings the swords towards the ground to get the blood off. I'm not sure if the animation is only for the katanas though.

Dismemberment has NOT been confirmed, however if you watch the trailer in slow motion that one skeleton's head sure does look like it might have popped off. So...yeah.

If not dismemberment, then definitely a rough and gritty disfigurement.

I heard they were working on dismemberment, but that they were in the same state as ridable mounts, as in, they haven't decided if they'll include it (although, I expect ridable mounts to be included) . I don't remember where I heard it though.

Well, I'd love to see the wiping animation included in Skyrim. Seems doubtful that'll happen though, but we can hope.

Todd said in an article a while back that BGS is experimenting with limb amputation. They aren't sure if it will make it into the final build or not though, just like horse mounts and transformations.

Here is the article: http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/games/4905653/Preview-The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim

By pausing the game and switching the shield with a frost damage spell, Howard slows the enemy and delivers a crushing blow. "We're still messing with limb amputation", Howard assures the assembled press. "But it won't be as violent as Fallout 3."

So frost spells will actually slow enemies now instead of just dealing damage. Sounds good.

Thanks for the quote. I'm excited about the limb amputation. I just hope it's optional for the faint of heart, if it's in the final game.
