Bloody mess :/

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 5:46 am

I've chosen this perk and played for like 2 hours, (saved many times) I was just killing ants for most of it, and now i've started to kill raiders I'm realising how ridiculous this looks lol, shooting someone in the foot and their whole body explodes? meh..I'd really like to remove it, is that possible? - i'm playing on the pc.

Find the code for the perk online and go in the console. Type "player.removeperk xxxx"

Replace the x's with the code.

Yes, I didn't like that effect at all and removed it from the perk. My Bloody Mess no only does an additional 5% damage instead of also turning victims into a pile of goo. It was also a hassle trying to loot ehir bodies as there'd be various parts of them scattered all over the place. Unfortunately, removing the effect in game doesn't work. You need to start a new game in order to get rid of it.

Really?! and you tried removing it with the code above? If that's the case I've just wasted 2 hours of my life..

I'm only 10 hours into the game and will not put up with such a silly OTT effect like this for the rest of the game.... this game is amazing, i know I'm late to the party, this is seriously stupid though, they should give you the option to remove the effect.

so annoyed.

The perk Bloody Mess just got irritating after a while I mean the prospect sounded awesome before I got Fallout 3 and was reading previews and stuff but when I finally got it and started using the perk I just became annoyed with it after my first playthrough, Sometimes you just don't want your enemies corpses blown into a millions redonkulous pieces, Am I right?

And it screwed me over in the quest "You Gotta Shoot Em' in the Head" I shot Tenpenny in the head but since I had Bloody Mess he looked like some freshly exploded beef all over his balcony, then when I got back to Mr. Crowley he was all pissy about me not shooting Tenpenny in the head and decided that he'd only pay me 25 caps for my services! What a cheapskate!

Dear God, I cannot stand Bloody Mess. The idea sounds funny, but in reality, it just gets irriating after 5 minutes. I mean, Fallout 3's gore in unrealistic enough as it is -- exploding someone's head with a 10mm? I don't think so.

Though, I guess the 5% damage bonus is pretty nice, and if I were to have a total brain fart and take the perk, that would be the only plausible reason as to why.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who hates it.

I spent over 2 hours doing the whole fire ant thing for that little kid, helping the scientist etc.... i'll have to do it all over again now.. Instead I just think I'll avoid that for now and do later.

It just shows how unoriginal the developers were.

In the original game, granted there were limited graphics, they had some wicked death scenes. Burning while staggering, cut in half, 2/3 of the chest cavity blown away, etc. Nothing close to that in FO3...just bodies exploding apart at the joints.

The thing I hate about it is

Spoiler
When you do a quest like You Gotta Shoot Em in the Head, and you shoot somebody in the head and their whole body splatters up. It doesn't count.

The Unofficial patch excludes that feature from working during YGSEitH quest, so if you're on the PC that shouldn't be a problem.

It goes back to the 2D vs 3D argument again. Things that are merely amusing in 2D with limited resolution, become horribly nasty and gross in 3D. Especially with the improved, more life-like graphics. In a 2D world, it's very easy to emotionally distance yourself from the action, but in 3D games our brains generally emphasize more and have a harder time treating it as fiction. You can simply get away with a lot more things in 2D then you can in 3D.

I imagine there are a bunch of mods on the FO3Nexus site dealing with this perk. Anything from toning it down (1% chance) while keeping the damage to disabling the effect entirely. Naturally, on the console, your only option is going to be reload from before you took that perk.

No, I didn't use that code. I merely went into the GECK and removed that effect from the perk, but it still remained in the game afterwards. That code will probably work to remove it altogether.

Effect apparently just changes an existing game setting from zero to one. To eliminate it you need to set it back to zero...how you do so depends on whether you were running the unofficial patch at the time.

Instructions for the PC are here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12272

It's a mod that does the same thing you did, but it also has instructions for correcting the situation if you've already taken the perk.

It's not ALL useless...It gives you a 5% higher chance of getting a critical hit.

That...and scattering body pieces? >w>

I think it's awesome! 8D ..........In a sadistic sense XD

No, it does 5% more damage with any weapon. That's the only reason why I like it, I don't like the splattering effect at all. I quit a game at about level 25 because of that.
