Bloody Screen! So Real!

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:44 pm

Actually it's terrible idea.
Sorry but it is.
It would actually ruin immersion and is not realistic at all.
When you get hit, there is no reason why should there be blood in your eyes and even if somehow blood does get in your eyes, it would only blind you, not give you a bloody screen effect.
This also ruins immersion since bloody screen would actually make it look as if there was a camera instead of a person and would actually be a slap back to reality.
Not to mention that it would result in unnecessary gore.

Id rather have my character experience dizziness and blacking out. Maybe swelling and loss of vision depending on the blows received. Ive never had a considerable amount of blood in my eye so I dont really know how that would work

Dizziness and blacking out are really good ideas. :foodndrink: It would really give you a sense of "you are about to die and you better do something quick or its over for you" kinda of feeling. :tes:

Sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't be as good for the younger players though. Bloody screen get's parents all worked up. Trust me, my sister goes nuts if her kids see that stuff ;)

Rated M for mature 17+ violence, blood and goor, partial nudity, use of drugs, use of tobacco, use of alchool.

This is what I would like to see, blood splatter across the screen makes it feel like you are wearing gogglezzzz

But you are not. >.>

Yeah, and we don't exactly hold a sword up to our eyes either. But there ya go.

And hey, maybe you just hit some dude and the blood gets all over your face!

Only because one thing doesn't make sense it doesn't mean we should make more things that doesn't make sense.
Also, bloody screen is really dumb idea that doesn't fit TES, is not realistic at all, ruins immersion and screws gameplay.
If you are getting your ass handed to you, last thing you want is some blood obstructing your vision.

It's a rather good thing since you don't really look at the health bar while you play.

It'd certainly add to the realism and immershun n stuff, so I see no harm in adding it in unless you have a phobia and you're scared of pixels ;)

How is it realistic? When I stub my toe or I accidently cut myself I don't see a giant flash of red across my version. That doesn't happen to anyone why should it happen in a game. And as for blood on the screen that also doesn't make much sense either. What you see on the screen is representative of what your character is seeing with his eyes. That means if there's blood on the screen your character has blood on his EYES BALLS. You can't see period when that happens and when you blink it would go away so it all makes no sense. If you think seeing red when you get damaged makes sense, maybe you need to go the doctor and get checked for hallucinations, you and the entire Actovison staff.

blood in your eyes from personal experience gives a blurry sticky yellowish tint to your vision(cant remember exactly took a bad blow to head split open left eye, vision detail wasnt a priority just the amount of blood lol) no full n red mist... this is unnecessary anyway, shuder and stumbling go along way, good sound fx too.

What?

Maybe you don't look at your resource bars while you play, but don't make that assumption about the rest of us. :)

No. I cannot understand why someone seeking realism, and 'immursion', would want a blood spattered 4th wall.

Maybe YOU don't look at the health bar, but most players most definitely DO look at it. This is an RPG, not Call of Dumbasses.

I don't make any assumptions. When you think in Swedish and put english letters on the screen, it can look like assumptioms every now and then. ;)

I think he was more hung up about me saying playing and not fighting.

No, actually it was what they said.
Not looking at your stat bar while playing a RPG is like not checking at your ammo while in a gun fight.

Sorry, I wrote the wrong way.

It's OK, no need to apology. ;)

While I fight ok? Relax with the dumbasses stuff. You are saying that all Call of Duty players are dumb. You know what? That is dumb.

No, CoD players actually are quite dumb. It's common knowledge for people who don't play CoD.

Even compared to older FPSs, CoD is a huge step back in the intelligence department. Single player is a shooter on rails, multiplayer has tiny maps where everyone is forced to run around like idiots with ADD, no more health bars, limited weapon selection (all the guns are just guns).

Lets not turn this into a CoD flaming thread. Just because I suggest bloody screens doesn't point to Call of Duty fan boy. Yes, I suggested MW2 in my OP, but I was just using that game as an example.

Blood? I'm fine with the whole outer-edges-of-the-screen-"glow"-red, but that shouldn't be blood, no one sees blood like that on their eyes.

Exactly. If anything, have an option...but I'd still prefer it wasn't in the game.

I apologize in advance if this topic has been done before, but alas, the search function didn't really find anything else.

NOW THEN, would you want a bloody screen like in MW2, Red Dead Redemption, etc. when you're close to dying or recieving a powerful hit? It'd certainly add to the realism and immershun n stuff, so I see no harm in adding it in unless you have a phobia and you're scared of pixels ;)

Thoughts/Opinions/Flames? Discuss! (If they do add this feature in, hopefully it won't look like jelly, like in MW2 :(

OH, and kudos to anyone who gets my reference with the title of the topic! ;)

EDIT: Okay, when it comes to bloody screens, just because you don't get blood on your EYES doesn't mean you still can't have bloody screens that make the game more realistic (RED DEAD REDEMPTION) In that game, you can get dust on your screen, and water droplets when it rains. In my opinion, that makes the game very realistic, even if it's not on your EYES.

I hate hate hate hate hate HATE HATE HATE this! I can't wait until this fad dies. I hope this isn't added. I want it to just go away. It's one of my only big complaints about Mass Effect 2. It's the only thing I don't really like about inFamous. I'm glad you like it. Enjoy it while the fad lasts. If it's not a fad, then I'll live with it. It's annoying but not game breaking to me. I prefer an old school health meter. Granted ME2 has a health meter and this system, but just ugh I hate it.

What's worse is this gets put in games where it doesn't even make sense. I saw a WWII shooter with this. A WWII shooter where if you get shot the screen turns bloody and then you hide and your health magically comes back. Just... no! At least in Skyrim you'd have magical enchantments to explain this if they added it. I still don't want to see it though. It's probably the number one thing added in modern gaming, other than the graphics valued more than game play lack of split screen play in some modern titles, that I very much dislike in this game generation.

Right, because Battlefield has a lot of weapon choices. Battlefield is just as stripped of intelligence to play. The only FPS worthy of being called great since the orginal Ghost Recon and RB6 has been Operation Flashpoint. Battlefield [censored] are funny.

Hahahaha, sorry, sorry, sorry, I just couldn't restrain myself from making that joke.
Seriously though, I personally don't like CoD, but don't think that players of that game are dumb.

Maybe it's nostalgia but Hexen is still my favorite FPS, followed closely by the Jedi Knight games. I don't need all the fancy dancy gimmicks added in modern FPS games (especially the whole "you can only hold two weapons" thing). I always hear Half-Life is genuinely good though.

More on topic I don't oppose this simply because it started in FPS games. It's long seeped into other genres by now. I just hate the idea altogether. I don't feel regenerating health fits TES and even if they used regenerating health I hate the cracked/bloody screen with ringing ears and black and white and in general irritating (to me) design that goes along with it.

CoD is better than counter strike by far.... counter strike was originally just half life multiplayer standalone.... it is the most raw shooter you can find, you just have basic gameplay and basic guns. it has a little shop minigame to spice it up tho, call of duty could've used that.

Lets face it, the people here who are flaming CoD just don't like first person shooters. keep it to yourselves, you may be a hardcoe RPG gamer but i'm just a hardcoe gamer. i'm sure that most hardcoe FPS gamers would say the same about you since you're playing skyrim or oblivion or whatever.

As for the idea, I quite like it, as a matter of fact i like how it makes you aware that "ow that fukin hurt" instead of "oh crap i lost 10% health... or was it 9... or 5? no it musta been 15!" i can give another example of a game with this. its called League of Legends, and also Morrowind, if i recall correctly.

It kills immersion, its a visual distraction, it makes no sense in an RPG. In shooters, at least it has a purpose...somewhat. But in a sword and sorcery RPG? No way.
