Bloody Screen! So Real!

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:55 pm

I apologize in advance if this topic has been done before, but alas, the search function didn't really find anything else.

NOW THEN, would you want a bloody screen like in MW2, Red Dead Redemption, etc. when you're close to dying or recieving a powerful hit? It'd certainly add to the realism and immershun n stuff, so I see no harm in adding it in unless you have a phobia and you're scared of pixels ;)

Thoughts/Opinions/Flames? Discuss! (If they do add this feature in, hopefully it won't look like jelly, like in MW2 :(

OH, and kudos to anyone who gets my reference with the title of the topic! ;)

EDIT: Okay, when it comes to bloody screens, just because you don't get blood on your EYES doesn't mean you still can't have bloody screens that make the game more realistic (RED DEAD REDEMPTION) In that game, you can get dust on your screen, and water droplets when it rains. In my opinion, that makes the game very realistic, even if it's not on your EYES.

Id rather have my character experience dizziness and blacking out. Maybe swelling and loss of vision depending on the blows received. Ive never had a considerable amount of blood in my eye so I dont really know how that would work

I cannot stand bloody screens - what I love is desaturation and heavy edge blurring. But yeah, that'd be great, especially with no UI.

Sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't be as good for the younger players though. Bloody screen get's parents all worked up. Trust me, my sister goes nuts if her kids see that stuff ;)

Blood? I'm fine with the whole outer-edges-of-the-screen-"glow"-red, but that shouldn't be blood, no one sees blood like that on their eyes.

I wouldn't mind the effect being in, but as for the health systems of those games I'd keep the health bar instead.

I think I heard somewhere that our character will have the near death screen thing like from Call of Cthulhu, screen blurs and vertigo-ish effects. Not sure, but I coulda sworn I heard (or read, more like) that somewhere.

"Sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't be as good for the younger players though. Bloody screen get's parents all worked up. Trust me, my sister goes nuts if her kids see that stuff"

Hence why the game is gonna be rated M.

On games like CoD this is fine but I prefer a health bar on TES and other RPGs. I want to see exactly how much health I have and how much the enemy hurts me so I don't have to guess how many more arrows I can take before a reload.

This is what I would like to see, blood splatter across the screen makes it feel like you are wearing gogglezzzz

Yeah, and we don't exactly hold a sword up to our eyes either. But there ya go.

And hey, maybe you just hit some dude and the blood gets all over your face!

Bloody screen is by no means realistic. All it does is effectively bring your death forward in time, as you become helpless before your health has even dropped to the point of death.

If you take a hit, dizziness and edge blurring are acceptable and more realistic, blood across the screen is not. If anything, blood should only splash on the screen when you perform a particularly brutal kill on somebody else.

Since they're developing the game with a Mature rating in mind I seriously doubt, and hope, they are taking people's children into consideration.

I'll take a health bar. I can't stand fancy screen effects that just disorient me when I'm trying to focus during critical situations. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4088/5042595526_aff20820a0.jpg is probably the worst case of this I've ever played. I died more because of the screen than by actually being in danger.

Suppose. Though rating hardly matter in these times. Children usually get what they want and good parenting is in a steady decline. Fact.

It is a fact, which kinda defeats your initial argument.

I wouldn't mind if it's like the Fallout one, but otherwise no.

Sheltering a kid from anything you disagree with isn't really good parenting either . . .

But, I like the idea of visual effects letting you know when your health is low. Skyrim won't have a UI on the screen; it'd be frustrating to be happily hacking at a dragon one minute, and lying on the ground the next because you didn't know you were low on health.

It's a rather good thing since you don't really look at the health bar while you play.

Edit: It's a rather good thing since I don't really look at the health bar while I fight. (I have never played CoD :) ).

How friendly of a bear are you?
Can I get a bear hug? :)

Whoever thought that making your vision (and hearing) get worse as you get near death needs to be slapped. If I'm getting wailed on and nearing death, an overly-obstructed view with limited hearing is the last thing I need. It looks cool, sure, but it's functionally terrible.

I never liked the whole blood thing. I've never heard of people who, close to death, slowly have blood seep from all corners of their vision. It is a good tool when there is no HUD or health bar (like in most modern shooters), but I don't think it fits in TES

This is so true, hence why the fail country I am from does not have an R18+ rating for games and has such support lobbying against getting one in place (because monitoring your kids is srs bsns).

You're health is going to show on screen whenever you take a hit, and for a little while after you attain full health. Has been confirmed to be the case. The HUD is supposed to be less intrusive, not non-existent.

lol. It is true though, the capable and, for lack of a better term, non-moronic parents are in a steady decline.

"Mommy can I buy this game? It's called Leisure Suit Larry."

(Thinking to herself "I remember leisure suits were popular in the 70s, therefore it must be a game about disco dancing.") *Out Loud* "Sure honey, get my credit card out of my purse and get it off Amazon. Just be sure to put it back when you are done."

*1 week later*

"Hello Congress? Yes I want you guys to fight the video game industry! I bought a game for my son and it was all six and drinking! Thank you."

[censored] morons.
