Bob the settlement builder (wishlist)

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 8:55 am

Ok anyone else a little frustrated with the limited building options right now?

For the life of me I can't get internal doors to work correctly, and where are the window walls?

I think I would be happy to pay for a decent DLC that includes some new build types.

Glass roof/walls.
Concrete/brick/stone walls.
Tents, sandbags, tire walls, barb wire fences, barrels, camp fires, pit traps, spike traps should all be in the building menu.

I want to be able to fabricate some cool forts and military style camps. I'm hoping this comes out in a decent dlc pack.

Does anyone else have ideas for a building wishlist?

Better control of placement. Better ability to deal with uneven terrain. Ability to clear piles of rubbish.

Placement can be tweaked easy enough and they should allow objects to be placed through other objects in workshop mode. Larger foundation blocks with no resource cost would do to fix the terrain. As for the rubbish I think that's part of the terrain from what I've seen so not sure that can be removed. I can work around most of these issues using the concrete block exploit but it's a real pain.

I should edit my post to specify on console. Placement control is not great on xbox one.

Skeletons, dead bodies, mole rat holes, etc all need to vanish once I activate the workbench. I don't have access to console commands to remove them manually. I'd like to see some proper wood walls as well. Better settler management is a must, it's the worst part of the whole experience.

I'll agree that settler management is a huge drawback. Yes selecting a settler highlights what they are working on. That does not matter one bit unless what they are doing is right bedind them.

If their exists some way to organize your workforce and we the comunity have overlooked it, I'd love for someone to clue us in. As it is, I'm tired of assigning the same 4 or 5 people to different jobs when I have over a dozen people in my settlement. This is not fun. It isn't even worth the headache as it currently stands and I don't see it as something that should be fixed by modders. It couyld even be something as simple as letting us rename anyone titled Settler. That would be enough.

The only tool I have that negates terrain is the cement floors they come in handy for uneven terrain and can even clip into other things...

What I do not like is the limitations on buildings......they do not follows physics...I can build a 3 story building with no support other then the ladder that starts it......

OH and the click into place things is super annoying.

There exists http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2017/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D2017%26preview%3D&pUp=1, basically you give them a job title after assigning them. Another way to do it is to give certain types of clothing to settlers with jobs. Farmers get hats (for instance), traders get business suits, etc..

More forgiving placement for sure. I'd very much like the ability to hold down some key while having a build option selected, that turns 'off' snap to.

I want a flat walkway bridge that does not have supporting pylons. I'd like support pylons to exist without a structure that they are already supporting.

Untill the GECK is out, mods aren't stable enough yet. Also, it isn't a thing that should be fixed by mods. It should be a basic function.

Window walls. Door frame for interior rooms/privacy. Scrap all junk button, instead of having to drop everything on the ground every time.
Honestly WHO designed this..??!!?
Prefabs without poles on every corner.

Edit
Be able to craft those lit lanterns.
Ability to keep NPC's OUT!
I don't like them lazing around MY house!

I dare say mods will cover much of what we want. As for what I want that would be craft able cement since it's so hard to come by.

I found that the installation of a Sunroof in my modern home was a lot easier when I used a 12 gauge rather than a hacksaw.

Tip,

For an internal door "metal structures" -> "Prefabs" look for the Hallway section with a doorway in it.

Now the question I have is when can I give my settlers a bar of soap?

I agree. I wish there was more variety, more freedom, and the ability to get rid of rubbish, dead plants, hedges and bodies, and the ability to scrap and replace broken walls, ceilings, etc...of existing structures OR let us scrap every structure in the settlement if we want (including the house foundations in Sanctuary)

I was just happy I figured out how to make houses with roofs that don't leak.

I sort of found a window, it's made of chicken wire and fiberboard stuff. I guess that works.

I just wish my magazines would stop coming off my book shelves and clipping through the floor, leading me to have to take apart my house to find them. Then I have to rewire, move back my power armours and so on. It's annoying

More and more interesting turret types. Especially those for latter sci and gun nut levels. Put that Rank 4 Gun Nut/Science! Perk to use besides modding armors and guns.

  • Plasma Scatter Turret: (SCIENCE! Rank 2): Exactly what it says. Shoots a plasma scatter. Offers 8 defense.
  • Gauss Turret (Gun Nut AND Science Rank 4): Very overpowered Gauss Turret. Offers 18 defense.
  • 50 Cal Turret: (Gun Nut Rank 3): Self Powered turret that shoots .50 cal but shoots slower. Offers 12 defense.
  • Minigun Turret: (Gun Nut Rank 4): Self-Powered Mini Gun turret. Offers 15 defense.
  • Guided top-attack missile turret: (Gun Nut Rank 4, Demolition rank 2): Much like the missile turret. However, instead of firing missiles directly at the target, it fires them into the air which then come down on top of the targets like a Javelin missile.
  • Broadsider Turret: (Gun nut Rank 2, requires completion of the Last Voyage of the USS Constitution.) Self Powered Turret that shoots exploding canonballs.

Also along that line of thinking: Buildable Bots: Also what it says on the Tin. Build robots. Just like Gray Garden however they count as population, but don't count towards food/water/bed requirements. They do different things.

  • Eyebot: (no perk) Flies around the perimeter. If it is engaged in combat, sets off an alarm alerting all settlers. All turrets (and robots) will home in on it. Only robot that does not count towards population, but you can have only one.
  • Protectron: (Science! 1) Offers 2 Defense. Can be assigned to certain tasks. Comes in different types with different armaments.
  • Handy: (Science 2) Can be assigned most tasks. Also, after a raider/mutant/whatever attack, it will fly around, loot everyone and put their stuff in the workbench.
  • Gutsy: (Science 3) Floats around, acts like a mobile turret. Offers Defense 5.
  • Assaultotron: (Science 4): Functionally similar to protectron. But offers 10 Defense.
  • Security Bot: (Science 3, Gun Nut 4): Much like the Gutsy, it rolls around on patrol. Offers 16 defense.
  • Synth: (science 2 (Gen1), Science 3 (gen 2), Science 4(Gen 3+), requires siding with the institute or railroad.) Acts just like a normal settler.

I agree that structural components should be allowed to phase through each other. I can understand for interact-able objects, there's just no lee way. Beds and such just need room for characters to finish their animations in without falling through the world. Walls, though? The amount of times I haven't cursed begin to be outnumbered by the times I have when constructing. I wanted to build a pazio around the Drive-In building and I got things just right only to find out that while it'll accept the wooden floors, it won't accept the walls that complete the damn thing.

I also want the ability to build higher walls without having to build a roof and a floor, a second wall, then remove a roof and a floor. I just like space in my buildings, I'm slightly claustrophobic about ceilings because of my height IRL (6'6''), so the ability to snap walls right on top of each other would be a lifesaver.

Pardon for all caps; WE NEED FUGGING INDOOR DIVIDERS WITH DOORS, WHAT THE [censored]. Seriously, I can't create separate rooms with separate doors? What the hell?

I would like to be able to cover up the inner walls with something more pleasant-looking, a bit like how you can/must place floors on top of roofs. Just do the same thing inside and allow me to complete the picture. It looks so cold right now.

I want to be able to assign my companions. ATM, none of my companions can be assigned, while I hear on the console versions you can. This is particularly, eh, important to have romantic companions be sleep in the same bed consistently. I don't want to have to construct a cage around Piper to keep her in place while I take a nap or have to switch out companions everytime. Oh, that reminds me; I need to be able to assign myself a bed so settlers know not to [censored] with me. LIterally and figuratively. And we need double beds.

In fact, all companions should have a "doghouse" specifically for them, so they can be found with relative consistency. I should be able to open an office for Nick Valentine in Sanctuary or create a recharging pod for Codsworth or Curie.

I want display case-mechanics for more things. In the starting menu, you see various tools hanging from tool racks, so I figured that was an option. Instead, I had to lay them on shelves, which is literally and figuratively clunky. Heck, if I set up mannequins on top of guard posts, I expect defense points for intimidation for the type of equipment they are wearing.

I think that an overgrown Eyebot could probably be a good excuse to be able to access the workshop inventory while in the field. As a designer, I notice that, unlike in other games, I am less willing to sell all my stuff to vendors. I think that is a more interesting challenge for a player than wrestling with weight limits; wrestling with the fact that they probably just have too much to navigate through efficiently with any kind of UI. So, a mobile Supply Line, basically.

I agree that we should be able to build more, BUT not right from the start. Remember, neither the male not he female protagonist is architect, farmer or engineer. You should learn it first, IMHO you should have even less options in the beginning of the game. Nevertheless, after learning how to build ( via perks or magazines or whatever ) you should be able to build more ( at least something like rain proof roofs and walls )

Management of building itself and settler coordination should also be better.

I put a lamp on one table and a flower vase on another and was so proud of myself, till I came back and they were sunk down in the tables, in such a way I can't get the flower vase out anymore.

Basic things like that should be fixed by beth, there are other platforms besides pc which have no guarantee of ever getting these pc workarounds.

All the options should be there from the beginning. Many of us have played the sims and are used to the grid snap mechanic. It is the lack of options here that is the frustration. I can go to Morrowind cs and build a square room that only has poles on the wall sides and no poles in the center....

So these poles on all four corners of the prefabs have a giant question mark over my head. A 13 year old game has superior building pieces?
