Body Hit Detection

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:18 pm

Hey, just wondering if there are any simple mods that can detect where on the body you are hit or NPC you hit. Its a shame I can whack someone in the face 3 times and do as much damage as the arms or legs.

I dont believe Deadly Reflex or Unnecessary Violence have this. I think DR5 has body detection with its lung pucture? feature, and the cutting off body parts? There great mods, but they have to much fluff features I simply dont feel fit right in the game.

Thanks

I think that TheTalkieToaster's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20163has locational damage.

great thanks! i didnt care much for the other parts he included, but i definitely grabbed the damage text one and the body detection part. I definitely liked how he went about it by reducing attributes and skills instead of just damage. Quite interesting... almost makes me wish I could continue on with that body detection mod. I think I could bring a lot more to it. I dont see why its not very popular? Shooting a person in the leg with an arrow from far away draining their fatigue is incredibly immersive and I think it has to be one of the most creative mini mods thats been overlooked.

I haven't spent a whole lot of time with it yet, but is there something wrong with the detection or errors? I ask this because again it seems to be overlooked and I never even found it on this site until you linked me.

My question is, i wonder if this also goes toward the player. If I am shot in the leg with an arrow will my fatigue drain, if I am stabbed in the arm will my strength go down. If I am shot in the head with an arrow will I receive 50% more damage? So many questions I have lol, I guess not many are as much into the strategy where to hit your opponent in battle to disable or hurt him more and rather just hack and slash?

If your after damage text, I also suggest that you take a look at Scathe. AFCv2's locational detection is quite flawless.

I'm pretty sure that the feature is limited to the NPCs, i.e., the player doesn't take locational damage.

Thanks, I will check out that damage text you gave me as well. I just wanted something nice and simple, I will try both. ^_^

I agree that AFC locational detection is very good after I looked through his scripts. However, I really want to edit it myself. I dont want to change anything he has already done, but I want to add increased damage to lethal parts and it seems as if it is very simple to do as I would just add:
set scratch to -damage*(VALUE)
and
target.modav2 health scratch
to each body part, and even add a few of the ones he left out but I am pretty new at getting any scripts I edit/right for learning to work right. Every time I try to save a script I always get errors. Im fairly decent at scripts and programming as I have taken 2 years of it in college before I pursued other interests but I suppose I haven't read enough about the scripts in TESC.

I am curious whether or not players do have locational damage though. Can you not refer to target as yourself and subsitute NPC as player 1?

I might as well post this since I did on his download page for him to read if he wants:
Hi, i very much like the hitlocation mod you have created, however i really wish i could alter it a bit. i want to simply add damage benefits to more than just the head when shooting an arrow. I have opened your file up and looked at the scripts and it looks pretty simple to add what I am wanting but I keep getting errors when editing the script. If you dont want me trying to edit your mod, then I wont... but it really would have been completely perfect had there at least been an INI to add damage to all body parts or if I could at least edit the scripts myself which I did but can not save. I am pretty new to how TES modding works, but the scripting is quite easy so I know it was no code error on my part and possibly the way I opened up the file?

I simply plan to add extra damage to lethal areas such as head/torso/groin in blade, blunt, and marksman but with slightly different values for each since you seem to have a lot of attribute damage with the blunt and more detection such as arms.

I just believe when fighting in combat, I should be more encouraged to want to focus their lethal areas in order to kill them. The skill and attribute drain idea is great, and I love it, but it can be a bit too passive without any other alterations when aiming for certain parts of the body without damage improvement.

Any help with me privately editing the file for personal use would be greatly appreciated! I dont plan to change anything you have already wrote, but simply add a balanced damage for specific hitlocations.

Thanks

sorry for bumping this, i am really in need of help as to why i cant seem to correctly save the script after I edit it. i am not looking to reproduce the mod, but simply for personal use to fit my own taste. i can handle the scripting itself on my own, but there seems to be some sort of compatibility errors just simply openining both the esm and the esp up in the TESC. is this the wrong way to go about this?

thanks

hey, once again im gonna try bumping this... possibly toaster might see this thread. :P
and make sure he doesnt mind me editing his work even if just for personal use only.

i just want to add a few lines of code which is no trouble at all for me to do, after looking at numerous scripts of other mods and just the ones from oblivion in general, its not too difficult but i always have problems opening user made esp's correctly because they are always missing something. I am probably missing something incredibly simple but i have yet to find out what it is. I cant even open up and resave without touching the scripts at all, so i know its no syntax problems.

thanks

When trying to edit other authors' ESPs make sure you have the proper tools you'll need.
Adrenaline Fueled Combat requires OBSE v0015 or higher from looking at the description, so its scripts can't be touched without starting the CS with OBSE ("obse_loader.exe -editor") or they won't compile anymore. Also make sure your CS version is 1.2.404, or you might run into trouble opening newer plugins.
It wouldn't hurt to have your game properly patched at version 1.2.0416 either, if there was anything altered inside the Oblivion.esm every plugin is loading alongside.
I fail to notice any further requirements for AFC, so that 'should' make you good to go already.

thanks! i was under the impression you only had to use the command prompt way once and it would always start up after that for you using the obse launcher but i was wrong. ^_^

is there a way i wont have to always go to run and type in the path manually to get it to run?

thanks

yay it works, i still got an error at the beginning about some magic thing but it saved just fine. now I have what i wanted added to the scripts so choosing where to aim/strike is a little more rewarding but not overpowering. and chance of disarming when hitting the hands, and tripping when legs.
