Body Movement

Post » Thu Sep 15, 2011 9:10 pm

After watching the latest videos, both the released Bethesda videos and the Gametrailers video, I can easily say I am absolutely satisfied with the body movement. And even the tail movement. The natural fluidity of the body when it goes from walk, run, to sprint. I love it. Anyone else feel the same way? Or no?

Yes.

So much better than OB. The characters just look so natural. Finally, no more diagonal running. :s

Body animation has never exactly been Bethesda's strong suit, but I am pleasantly surprised with the body movement in Skyrim.

Typically Bethesda games have had pretty bad animations. Walking in Morrowind looked like you were a wooden man trying to strutt, while Fallout 3 characters didnt 'run' so much as glide majestically across the ground. Although some stuff like the falling giant in the demo looked a little off, the actual animation for characters (ie, running, walking etc) all do look like the best Bethesda has done. They're much more fluid than in the other games, so it looks like Bethesda has worked hard to improve that niggling problem with their games. :)

(in the recently leaked footage)

Looks weird to me to be honest.

The charge attacks looks really stilted and unnatural, not as bad as FO3 but not much better. I didn't like it at all. When Alvor the blacksmith walked up the stairs I almost laughed at how bad it looked. I did like the animation of the wolves though. That seemed cool. Also, the animated tails are looking sweet.

Pretty awesome, so much better than Oblivion, night and day :D

If you watch the Quakcon footage, you'll see that the falling giant animation is much better than the E3 demo.

I like it. It reminds of a serious upgrade to the Morrowind body movement.

I love it, a great improvement over Oblivion. I love the way the Kahjiit tail was moving while sprinting, its like the tail is an actual body part instead of some "thing" just stuck back there.

Only the mounting and dis-mounting animation of the horse riding looks buggy. Why does the entire mounting animation has to jump to the full mounting animation? If the feet where to be positioned on the ground where they where then it would be much better.

I'm disappointing only that there is no advanced movement in the game
(Brink- heavy/medium body type level movement)

As for animations- I like it

That tail from the Khajiit in the gametrailers video looks like a broom dangling on his butt. That's the first thing I noticed.

The movement of the entire Khajiit is nice.

3d person combat seemed very clunky and not precise, while 1st person looked very good, even in that video.

I noticed the sliding archer in the Quakecon footage as well. Like nails on a chalkboard for me..

But yes- 3rd person POV- our character moves pretty darn good.

Also I noticed he doesn't look like he's in pain when he is sneaking in 3rd person I always felt like it seemed that way in the other TES games.

Its bad. The characters in skyrim need to trail their arms behind them and lean forwards when they run for better aerodynamics. :hubbahubba:

That 3rd person charge attack does look awful. Objectively awful. Admit this at least.

For my sanity's sake.

The animations are much better, however, have any of us seen someone "jump" yet? They cant have removed it, can they? In all the videos I am surprised people arent jumping around like crazy, I would out of cheer excitement from playing.

It's not bad. But if this being Bethesda is taken into consideration, it's fan-freakingtastic. It's easily what had the biggest leap from their previous games. I'll bet a grand that they hired new people for it, otherwise these kinds of results are impossible. Character animations never improved much over their games if at all and even custom Morrowind animation seriously looked better than the default Oblivion or Fallout 3 ones. So to sum up: thoroughly impressed.
