Body types

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:26 pm

I really enjoy the body customization in other games so thats a big plus for Skyrim.

I guess modders will have a hard time (at the beginning) creating new armor and cloth meshes that work well with the customization options, but I have faith in them :).

Actually, I'd assume that body customization would mean that clothing would conform to whatever body you put it on. I'm hopeful that it will mean the end of separate little pockets of clothing for this and that modded body.

IEdit2* Huzzah!! I found it. On page 51 they say "Players will be able to craft their hero from 10 unique races as the game begins; facial and body features are entirely customizable."

I didn't catch this when I read the article. Thanks for posting that. Body type customization would be most welcome.

I hope we will see in Skyrim some FAT tavern keeper, for example.

I have the Skyrim GI article and I can see a picture of one right now, actually. Fat bartender. With a beard too.

I don't think anybody saw that as I know I didn't, I think everybody including myself were mystified by another image in that photo.

Not true... the dark elf NPC looks much more lean and slender than the player character.

If you're all talking about the image of the hooded guy knifing someone, I'm not so certain that is a dark elf that's getting knifed.... looks like a Goblin to me, which would definitely explain it's gangly proportions.

I think that too, what I meant was that I guess the polygons have to be on specially arranged so that the body morphs correctly and isn't distorted, as well as the UV Map.
However, the TES modding community is very talented and competent, they will solve every problem within one or two months :)

Have you ever seen a Nord only 1.70 metres tall (5' 7")? That would be funny, but maybe realistic too, seeing as in real life just because 1 race is known to be tall, doesn't mean everyone is.

Everyone thinks of Scandinavian people as all being really tall, thats not the case, have the same average height has everyone else in Northern Europe, Germany, Britain etc. Pretty much the same average height as people in the U.S. in fact. Now average height is debatable mind you but generally average height is considered 5'8 to 5'10 (I give a bit of range here because there is a slight difference of a centimeter or two between some European countries and a lot of people can't agree on average height especially if you ask clothing manufacturers). Plenty of Scandinavians fall into this height range. So I agree that it's unrealistic that every Nord, Imperial, Dunmer etc is the same height as everyone else in their race.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The texure of the skin seemed off too. It looked to, I dunno...rubbery? to be a Dark Elf. I thought it was a goblin from the get go.

I think it'd be against the forum rules to do so I'm afraid in this case because it's one from the GI mag.

Yeah, but Nords are tall because they are. I guess they could also be fat if need be (too much wasabi and whale blubber?).

Yeah, I sort of hope they just totally rip off Eve's character creator. I can spend hours building my character on it.

It'd be a difficult at times to tell the difference between Nords, Imperials, Bretons if they didn't use unrealistic things like fixed height for races or all Nords have big beards for something. It may be unrealistic but I kinda like the system. Reminds me a bit of the Star Wars way of creating different instantly recognizable planets. Snow planet, desert planet, forest planet etc. not realistic but part of the Star Wars charm. I think it's sort of the same with TES. Nords are tall, Bosmer are short etc. I only brought up the average height thing because I wanted to point out that a difference in height range with Nords etc is entirely realistic.

Nords , Imperials and Bretons should differ as Caucasian sub-races do ( ofcourse most white ppl are of mixed subraces)

As height goes Nords are stereotyped vikings beardy, tall and fearless.

Height should be put under a certain limit like shortest for nord male is 170cm and tallest 200cm for example.

I totally agree with that. I want adjustable height but within reason. No 6 foot tall Bosmer and no 5 foot tall Nords.
