BodyPartData - - possible to change for an NPC?

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 2:00 pm

I want to use an alternate group of BodyPartData stuff for certain NPCs.

NPCs seem to be using DefaultBodyPartData, and I do not see a way to switch them over to something else.

Creatures in the GECK have a dropdown for it (in their ModelList tab), but I see nothing at all for NPCs that could do it.

Does anyone know of ANY sorta way to do this to an NPC?

Maybe, this is just an idea and I'm not the best with this stuff so it may be a stupid one, you could make a creature, and make it have the model and sounds of a human. That way it is pretty much a normal NPC, and you have the drop down tab to select your body part data from. I dunno, I have never dealt with this area of the game yet, but it might work I suppose.

That cannot help at all. Creatures cannot even equip armor, everything lives in the body's mesh and texture. I cannot substitute a creature for an NPC for that and other reasons.

I was curious about this at one point too. As far as I know, NPCs are hardcoded to use DefaultBodyPartData, so that can't be changed. And you wouldn't want to edit the existing Body Parts within DefaultBodyPartData radically, since that would affect all NPCs. I never attempted anything, but I had wondered if you could add a new Body Part or two in such a way that they'd only appear while wearing certain armor - I assume this would require editing the meshes for the skeleton and/or that armor to create the proper bone nodes which could be assigned to the new Body Part. Even if any of this is possible, I'd imagine anything you might be able to do without screwing up VATS for all other NPCs would be pretty limited.

That sounds creepy, I can see it now, 4-armed 4-legged followers and [censored], two heads, .. omg .. centaur followers... help
