Boethiah...Dark Mistress?

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 2:24 am

During the The House of Horrors quest when you talk to Logrolf and if you tell them Boethiah sent you, he says this.

"The Dark Mistress? She sent you?"

Um what in the heck happened there? You mean to tell me, after many games (most were DLC addons) somebody forgot this guy

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Boethiah

was a guy? And nobody caught it!? Does anybody have a answer to explain this? The Wikis I looked at mentioned nothing, I never caught this btw until just now.

It's a floor wax, it's a desert topping, ... it's both!!

Boethiah and several other Daedric Princes are of no fixed gender. Most have a preference, but aren't bound by it. That's one reason they all get referred to as Daedric Princes.

Yeah------------------------------no. I'm sorry but we see statutes of this guy as a axe wielding male, in every game we see these princes as 1 gender, they aren't genderless we even SEE a few in flash and bone! Hey, if Boethiah shows up in game as a female that'd be totally fine, but we have more than enough to prove these princes have a fixed gender. Sorry but disagreeing with all my might with this by all the in-game proof we can use.

You could say they can they sometimes change gender whenever they want, that'd be a big stretch but believable.

you should look at some of the extened lore and books from previous games

the Daedric princes have no set gender or appearance.. think of them as masses of energy that can take on whatever form they wish

Boethiah in particular has gone by both several male and female titles throughout the franchise.. including "Queen of the Shadows"

they may have a preferred appearance. but they are not set to it, and the entire concept of gender doesn't apply to the princes at all

We still see some as flesh and bone, it's just weird knowing Boethiah is shown as a ax wielding male and then hear a guy all him "mistress" the lore might state they are genderless, but the game theirselfs stick them with 1 gender and 1 gender only. Until we ever see one of these guys change gender and see them in game, well not everybody reads the books or do deep lore searching. I suppose that's what the net is for, the quest wikis should really mention this.

Those describing what TES lore says are absolutely correct. That said, I join you in preferring that such lore should be effectively portrayed in game so those who simply play the game would see it in action. I really don't think it would be hard at all to 'show' that Daedra Lords can present as either gender at will instead of simply 'tell' us about it in the obscure passages of dusty texts.

IIRC, Boethiah is the only one who has chosen, that we see in the games, to manifest as both male and female on Mundus.

That being said, like everyone else said, the Daedric Princes have no fixed gender. They are also referred to as Daedra Lords, which can help to make it less confusing. I usually just do that anyways.

I also have to add that Boethiah's statue in Skyrim is a lot more feminine than her previous incarnations, and he has a feminine voice when he interacts with you during his questline (her http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Voice_of_Boethiah#Voice_of_Boethiah).

Hell her followers even switch pronouns mid-sentence when referring to him during said questline. The Princes might have a preference to what they manifest as but they don't really have a fixed gender. Boethiah's the more extreme example in where he just goes with whatever suits her at the moment.

I was going to say that the statue definitely has a feminine form. Either that or he's in drag lol.

I'll just show you my good side before ordering you to kill that Spellsword. Does my bum look big in this mail? Be honest.

This right here pretty much describes Boethiah's the reason to do so. Since a lot of Boethiah's influence revolves around deception, it makes sense that when they take upon a mortal manifestation, that they choose whatever gender best fits the goal.

The Daedric Princes aren't even humanoid, let alone having a fixed gender. (Examples: Hermaeus Mora or Peryite.) They have no "actual form." They present themselves as they want.

I find it disappointing to think of Dibella or Nocturnal as anything but goddesses. Lore be damned.

Also remember while not in game it is said Vivec could change genders as well as his overall appearance. It is said he had six with Molag Bal as a female and bore his children. He also had six as a female with his elite guard the all male Bouyant Armigers.

What part of no gender did you not understand?Physical apperance doens't matter to the Deadra lords. They have favourite forms but no set gender and the statue in Skyrim is female    .And no the games do not stick to one gender because the books are part of the game.

In which case you have no right to complain.

I was too quick and threw everything into an "otherworldly" bucket. Perhaps at least Dibella is safe.

I suppose I should had said that I never found him in game. On my 3rd playthrough yet I never found most of these guys, just a few. So I had no idea Boethiah had a female statue, suppose like in Morrowind you had to "find it by chance" by exploring?

They could easily have the player pick a option "wait, I thought you were an prince?" and have whichever their talking to explain this. Not hard.

I think the Daedra are confused at a deep level, which comes from an unhappy childhood. A shifting notion of self because parental stability was absent in their formative years resulting in the inbuilt need to constantly find themselves.

This manifests most troublingly as the vicarious need to re-experience their difficult early time by re-creating that unsettled existence in the lives they touch, often ruin, on the mortal plane.

They just need a cuddle to show that the naughty behavoir is not necessary.

But I ain't doin' it.......

(Edit... 'Cept for Nocturnal....coz she's hot)
