Bokeh DOF

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:49 pm

Ok when i turn on ultra settings i get reasonable 30-40 fps but theres one thing... it disables DOF when post processing is set to ultra but it enables it in extreme... now is that still Bokeh DOF or just usual DOF?? i really want to play everything thats inclouded in new patch but now im not sure if everything is cranked up to the max^^

Guys, Same issue here. I really love the motion blur enhance on Ultra Post Process settings but Bokeh DoF doesn′t work for me in ultra. it seems to work in Extreme PostProc. only. I really want both, but i can′t :(

you do... DX11 motion blur doesn't blur your weapon it blurs everything else in a cheeky way except your weapon which shouldn't bemotion blurred anyway. The thing is that DOF is missing in ultra .

I noticed the DOF is very ugly at Ultra, and it also causes severe framerate drops... Extreme much better.

Good job on the patch though, I realize it was probably a lot of work, but still it would be nice if this $60 game worked properly on my PC.

Well maybe for you but i think it looks awsome... the way it DOFs on ultra in cut scenes makes me like this ":o". Hope it resolves in next patch so we can have that effect while playing also :)
Btw Throughout campaign i've noticed some lacking... persay same textures were tessellated in one part but in another part they weren't tessellated and so as bumping... at one place its bumped the same texture and later the same texture isnt bumped. Hope they fix all of this and also optimize it more so there arent some image tearing and flickering which is the only thing that stops me from thinking this is reailty :)

What about when you aim down sites, isn't it applying it then?

Yes, but that feature is on high settings as well as bringing up weapon customization, I thought we where actually going to get "depth" as in random focusing between the environment objects

that is supposed to happen but somehow its not working... theyll fix that in next patch probably. It doesn't work when you aim down sight and it doesn't apply normaly as it should have... Its working in cut scenes and armor/gun menu.

It works for cut scene or weapon customization is because the "camera" can be manipulated with focal length and DOF.
While in game, you are looking through your "eyes", it will be very taxing to your GPU and even lower FPS should bokeh applied with constant changing focus point and varying DOF. If your eye didn't have problem, you can see really far away and still don't have this DOF effect. It's not like our eye have fixed aperture or aperture blades.

Aim down iron/reflex sight is different since it involves mimic peripheral vision.

In the released DX11 document, it is said that applying the bokeh DOF constantly like described above is way to demanding for existing hardware, as PenguinTD has mentioned. However, it is true that there is no DOF while aiming down sights, with post-processing at ultra. With post-processing at extreme, there is some DOF, but it would be nice to have more of it (i guess that should be the ultra setting.)

I in my autoexec adjustable r_DepthOfField = 2, the menu of the game for postprocess I'm not setting Ultra but customization, so I noticed this, with this setting I dof bokeh distant aiming and the cut scenes, against by the menu if I go into high setting, the DOF is close but just when I aim and zoom, but it disappears in cutscenes...This game is a hell to adjust, the first Crysis was a treat!

Crytek fix this please !

TBH I don't think games should have DoF, simply because you're already normally focusing on one area of the screen while you're playing, which is REAL/NATURAL depth of field effects ;)
Just sayin'
