My bone to pick with the Crysis Sequels

The game itself was a neat experience gameplay-wise, but story-wise it was a betrayal to me.

The first game ended on a cliffhanger, so naturally I was hyped with the prospect of a sequel. I wanted to take the fight to the alien mothership with Prophet, Psycho, and Helena! Instead I'm thrust years later in a place I don't care about, surrounded by characters I don't know.

Nothing was familiar about this game. The frightening, cold, flying, black and blue-clad aliens were replaced by chrome-plated red squids that sounded like Geth with a wooping cough. It's like they abandoned the storyline of the first game and started a new one. The highlights of the campaign for me were in Hargreaves' office and when the VTOLs landed. At least something from the first game was there.

Frankly I never got the whole replacing the alien bit. The Aliens completely owned the military forces on Ling Shan, and they were sending out vast legions of ships to attack the world. So the first thing they do is recall all their legions and "adapt" by making them mimic their enemies with bipedal armor suits that barely cover their bodies? They were easier to dispatch than in the first game, even on the hardest difficulty! It's like they decided to handicap themselves because they felt sorry for the humans.

What ever happened to those blue aliens anyway? They were unique, and the most alien-looking creatures I had ever seen. I would compare them to sea otters, but even that anology would be very lose. They were beings that lived in sub-freezing temperatures, and in weightlessness, quite alien to what we would expect. Now we just get red spacesquids that crawlled out of the spacesea.

And now I have seen the trailer for Crysis 3, and already I get bad vibes from it. It's still set in New York. What is it with Crytech and their obsession with New York!? We have seen that place in Transformers 3 and the Avengers. Can't we have a more original location for an alien skirmish? but, I digress. The thing that bothers me the most about it is that it looks identical with Crysis 2. It just now has bows and arrows. However, it may be too soon to judge it. It sounded like Psycho was in the trailer, so there may yet be hope. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Edit- corrected Psycho misspell.

You can't even type "Psycho" correctly. Your argument is invalid. Just kidding, you have some very good points there. Many people would agree with you about the aliens. I suppose that Crytek wanted to try something different with C2. In Crysis 3, I'm expecting to see at least some aliens, that resemble the originals. But in a whole, I'm expecting the fans of the first game to like C3 much, much more than the second. The game seem much more open, and it seems to offer more freedom of choice. We'll have to wait untill we play the game before judging anything.
