Bonemold Armor Symbols

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:09 am

Greetings.

I stopped in the armor shop in Balmora and was trying on some of the bonemold armor the fellow had for sale. As I was admiring myself in the mirror, I noticed some 'symbols' etched into the surface of the different pieces of armor. At first, I figured it was just decoration, but then I noticed one symbol, right in the middle of the chest piece looked remarkably like the 'Oblivion Symbol' (rune?). Giving the other symbols a second look, I decided the rest might also be Daedric symbols/runes. Are these in fact known symbols/runes, and if so, what do they mean?

The "Oblivion" Rune is called "Ohm"-- and roughly translates to the letter "O"

Weren't they the symbols for Ayem, Seht, and Vehk? If I remember correctly, that is.

Might also be the House symbols, since bonemold is 'Great House' armour according to its little blurb. Though I want to say it's the above.

Yes yes.. But it still is an "O" by any other name.

It seems bonemold has built-in electric resistance!

I wonder why a random Oht would be on the Bonemold though. There doesn't seem to be anything in the Dunmer pantheon it could stand for.

I recognise the 'h' on the right, but what's the one on the left? It looks like a mirrored 'h', but I'm not sure why it would do that.

Incidentally, I was talking about left/right from the viewers perspective.

Yes. I had trouble with that, it's just a mirror image of the other letter...

It allows a greater resolution/image weight ratio if you make just one half of a symmetrical texture and use it mirrored on one half of the mesh...

I'd agree with you, but all of the textures have two sides when I check them. I suppose it was just the mistake of some distracted texturer who mirrored the texture. From what I can see, most of the Daedric characters on the bonemold armor are either disconnected letters or in some cases gibberish words.

Thanks for that link Wierd. I see that these are just letters and not runes or symbols at all. Neither are they Daedric. I wonder where I picked that up.

It looks like there are half a dozen or so letters in various places on the armor set. Particularly around the belt of the cuirass. Though those particular letters seem a little distorted. I'll see if I can decipher the letters using that index.

Thanks,
