Bonemold's Relation to the Great Houses

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:14 am

I was looking at UESP's medium armor, when I noticed the Bonemold Chuzei Helmet. I knew Armun-An was used by the Hlaalu and Gah-Julan was used by the Redoran, but who uses Chuzei?

There doesn't appear to be any consistent use of it. From the CS, the only one using it is a Telvanni guy, but it is sold in Molag Mar, Maar Gan and Ald'Ruhn. There's also one lying around in a tomb west of the Grazelands.

There's no official line. Could be a sub-house, some kind of Minor House. If its a fan-fic or something you're doing, it's pretty much free for interpretation.

For what it may, or may not, be worth, Tamriel Rebuilt has Chuzei as the bonemold of House Indoril.

Thanks for the quick responses, that's exactly what I needed to know.

I've always kinda thought of it as a Dres helm. It hides the face so well that captured slaves wouldn't know who snagged them.

Perhaps it's just a matter of fashion or production type; most armor types shouldn't be so easily connected to the particular social group.

Perhaps level designers weren't fond of it and they didn't use it extensively. :)

They all seem pretty anonymous to me.

Indeed. And why would they care if the slaves see their faces anyway?

Nothing is to say that a certain Bonemold armor type is connected to a particular House. It is just a different style of Bonemold, that isn't that popular on Vvardenfell. Clearly some of the houses have preferred styles, and it is reasonable to assume the other two would have their own picks. But just as well some styles may not have any ties to any of the Houses, and it also seems that the Great Houses don't have dibs on any of the styles either, as we can see Telvanni uses Armun-An, but with their own style of helms like the Cephalopod helm. Personally, I wish they had added more styles to the armor.
