Book CollectingReading

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:51 pm

I recently began playing Oblivion once again to prepare for Skyrim. This time around I'm doing something that I have never done before that has proven to be quite fun. I'm trying to collect and read every book in the game and place them in my Skingrad home. So far I've got quite a few, and it's exciting to try finding more.
If this idea doesn't sound completely boring to you, I recommend trying it if you haven't. :)

My Significant Other spends almost as much time reading as she does exploring and fighting and doing quests. I'll walk past her computer and see a book on her computer screen. I'll walk past an hour later and I'll see a different book on her computer screen. :)

If there's a long book in the game I want to read, I'll go and read it in the http://www.imperial-library.info/. It's a good idea though! I read The Refugees for the first time the other day, it was excellent.

I spend several RL days hunting down every single copy of The real, Braz...something something complicated words, of course I could have just gone online to see where the books were, or i could have read it online, but that takes the fun out of it, I was so into that book :P, although it made me hate Tiber Septim with a passion.

I enjoyed that book as well. Definitely one of my favourites.

I admit I do this too much. Go and clear out a place it takes 5 minutes. Spend another 10 minutes reading a book.

I downloaded a mod for Benirus Manor that has a fully stocked library in the basemant if you find a switch and toggle it. That was a mistake. Had no idea of all the books I missed in Sheo's realm.

I read the Beggar/Thief/Warrior/King series for the first time yesterday. Incredibly hard to find in-game, I think I've only ever seen a copy of King once. When I had the PC version I went into the testing area using a console command to see all the books. I had no idea there were so many.

This sounds fun and I'm glad that you are enjoying it! Just out of curiosity, when you find a book somewhere, how do you know whether it is already in your collection? Do you keep notes or a checklist of all the books or something? I don't collect the books, but I can imagine if I did, I would end up printing off a list and checking them off as they went into my library. Lol.

My paladin character, Dyan phor a'Cauz, was a fervent reader right off the bat. I really found it fit right into her roleplay to have her read all the time, without me having to ever force things. I started her game a year and a half ago, she's over 400 days into her game, which means we've probably read most of the popular books out there. Every once in a while, she (or one of my other chars) will come across a book it seems we haven't read before, though. It's cool how some books can only be found in dungeons, far away from civilization.

Unfortunately, I have a really bad memory for certain things, which comes from years of dain bramage. I mean brain damage. :) I can never remember if I've read a certain book before, sometimes even after I've started reading. I can't associate the name of the book with the text or story in such books. :banghead: for instance I know I've read the Real Barenziah series, probably several times, but i could never tell you guys what the hell it's about!

That's why I wish I could have that guy's book, the I'mnotreallyadoctor guy who started that thread a couple weeks back, the one who made that nice leather-bound tome. I would read that as I'm sitting outside in a park (rather than camped in front of my TV) which might help me retain info a lot better. :)

Hmm. Maybe Bethesda should release an ebook containing all the books, but that of course spoils the fun if you want to chase them down.

I'm sure someone has figured out how to pull out all the books from the game files.

My avatar Ulkas is not much of a reader, but would you consider the Barenziah series the most enjoyable/complete?

It's nice to see that other people do this too.

I just hauled my entire book collection from Dunbarrow Cove to Battlehorn Castle. I flirted with the idea of manually placing all of the books on the shelves in the Private Quarters, but settled for Lord Kelvyn's Chest instead. (Although I am known to do plenty of interior decorating. Lol)

I've been searching for The Argonian Account v1 and v3, as well as King-Thief-Beggar (is that right?). I only have Warrior in that set. I haven't looked online because I get really excited when I find a new book.

So now when Kilik D'Arth decides to read (to take a reprieve from all of the adventuring he has done lately) he does it in Battlehorn Castle. I think he's taking a fancy to Rona Benanius, as he's invited her to sit, read, and discuss various books over Wine and Cheese lately. She seems quite pleased by this... :foodndrink:

Nearly right, it's Beggar-Thief-Warrior-King. Good series, short and sweet. I've got vol 3 of the Argonian Account but I can't find the others haha.

Just found vol 1 of the argonian accound;) after having found like 100 number 2 and 4;)
3 I do not have though;)

Spoiler
number 1 was in a random tresure box in the Aylid ruins of ANGA. Not sure if it is fixed or that this means it is random loot.
for a couple of books ARE random loot.
The ruins of ANGA are unaccesable, untill you start the mission of Namira. (since I found them before and there was a rock before the entrance, later after the quest it was gone)
The place to start that is some state-scrine out in the open, south-south-east of bruma.
It will only allow you to start it if your personality is 20 or lower.
It is however a dark quest.. did not like it at all

My Character always has a library going from the get go.Even in my Morrowind days back in Tel Uvirith.I even place books in accordance to history/fiction/magickal studies/necromancy etc...

have a mod that adds a library just outside the imperial city.has every book from morrowind and oblivion respectively, although you cannot remove the books though :(.
