Book of Eli and Fall Out 3

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:23 pm

I liked Book of Eli cos it reminded me a lot of Fall Out 3. Why? Well I could go into detail, but maybe later...

Wait, I`ll do it now!

1. Walking around on your own in a desolate world, checking out doomed houses.

2. Walking into that city reminded me of walking into Megaton. If the moving, walking animations of people could be better in Megaton, it would`ve been perfect.

3. The whole bartering thing in the shop, really made me understand what bartering in shops might really have been like.

4. The whole `clean water is precious` thing.

5. Carnegie (Gary Oldman) reminds of that Irish guy who owns the saloon. Pity more wasn`t done with him in FO3.

6. The main character even ends up with an NPC girl to help him out after a while, who follows in that sullen, pouting manner. Just like FO3 npcs!

7. You can pretty much do everything the main character in the film does: Use a sword, or a gun, avoid battle, etc- Well, except magically avoid bullets and escape locked rooms somehow...

Well, that`s just my thoughts on this well-made movie.

Good points, I've always been a big fan of post-apocalyptic entertainment and The Book of Eli was one of my favorites. I was actually thinking about creating an Eli character for my next walk through in the game. But reading some of your points above I think a better idea would be to maybe follow the characters attributes more closely, make it a challenge for myself. For example, Eli seemed to favor his sword a lot in the film so maybe I strict myself to melee weapons.

Book of Eli definitely "felt" like a Fallout game.

Eli certainly struck me as the kind of character that many Players would come up with as well.

"I take a 1 in Perception, a 10 in Agility and a 9 in Endurance."

Transport Bible to Alcatraz certainly felt like a typical Fallout quest too.

* Receive quest from Mysterious Voice (possibly God)
* (Evil Karma option) Turn Book over Carnegie.
* (Good Karma option) Turn book over to Followers of the Apocalypse.

You could easily say this was set in the world.

Yea. All good points. Make him excell in sword skill and reasonably good in gun skills, perhaps with a good dose of luck to make up for his `protector` and I`m sure this would work. You can get some pretty good swords in FO3 or even download a Mod of the sword if on PC. Find an NPC follower- The rest roleplay.

I'd give him more than a 1 in Perception. True he is blind, but his other senses are extremely good. Smelling the raiders may not have been too hard, but shooting that cat with the bow was. I thought he favored his machete because it was hard to get ammo for his guns. Save the bullets for tough situations. That is easy to do in the game by limiting the amount of ammo you carry. Carry 12 rounds for your shotgun and you get very picky about who you will shoot. I do wonder about what his stats would be. Eli is about 50, but because of the survival his physical abilities would be higher than average. He is smart, but doesn't come off as a genius. His charisma is average at best because he is a loner and, at first, only cares about getting the Bible to its destination. I agree his luck would be very high (9 or 10) to account for the divine intervention. Have to use the Intensive Training perk many times to get an Eli. He has been traveling for about 30 years so he is no newbie character.

I agree. I wish that Bethesda had included a King James bible in the game, for RPing those religious fanatics. Instead I use paradise lost as the bible. :fallout:

Oddly, to this day, the most shocking plot twist in Fallout 3 was the fact the Point Lookout Missionary apparently was just a nice person and not holding some horrible secret.

I loved the movie and while you could make the connection between Fallout 3 and BoE, I'd say New Vegas fits better. (The film is filled with shots of Denzel walking through desert-like terrain, excluding the forest at the beginning.) In fact, I even downloaded a mod for NV that provides me with Eli's machete. Awesome stuff.

I actually made an Eli character. Made him look like Eli, and carried around a combat knife and a 10mm pistol. It was harder, but it was cool for the role playing aspect. I wore the Wasteland Trader outfit I think it was, and had shades on. Oh, and carried a Pre-War book at all time. xD

It doesn't matter that the film is like the game. I thought that was the whole point of the thread.
