Book Writing/journal Quill And Ink Mod?

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 12:49 pm

I apologize if this is a redundant topic. I'm having a little trouble finding exactly what I'm looking for. :user:

I'm finding lots of alchemy-related mods and *real* oblivion journals...but I'm looking for the ability to write books in-game, preferably without the script extender or any overhauls.

Does such a thing exist yet? :obliviongate:

(disclaimer: the "nachos" were just a way to get you in here)

Only Kyoma's journal mod, and it requires both OBSE and Pluggy. No quill and ink required, but I think it was discussed.

You'll never find a book writing mod without OBSE. The game has no usable text input function without it.

Do Pluggy and OBSE interfere with mods like OOO or anything else? Are my pre-saved games at risk? :cryvaultboy:

Not at all. They add new functions, but don't interfere with any existing functions.

The only caveat is that they don't work on versions bought from Direct2Drive, versions that haven't been updated to the latest official patch, or versions that have been altered with a no-cd patch or similar.

And your savegames can be doubly protected if you are nervous simply by not saving over them. Nothing in Oblivion, OBSE, pluggy or any other mod will alter a previously saved game unless you allow it to.

short answer: no.

long answer. no, OBSE adds some functions to the scripts, but don't do anything to save games or anything like that, pluggy is a another code extender.. (i think) but doesn't mess with your files.

however, once you have a saved game that uses a mod that has obse enabled, trying to run that same save with OBSE not enabled is going to mess with it.

OBSE has been around for a long while, surprised to see anyone that uses OOO that is unfamiliar with it.

Been using that journal mod for a while now, and it's pretty damned useful to have for roleplaying.

It is. It's one of the best roleplaying tools in the game, as well as being a great way to track info in quest mods that expect you to figure some things out on your own. The fact that you can make multiple books is also great.

It's a configurable option in-game through a menu.

Okay, thanks everybody. But it's not working.

I downloaded OBSE, extracted the proper .dll's and the .exe.

I downloaded Pluggy and put it in the Data/OBSE/Plugins file like it said.

I enabled the journal mod .esp after adding all the meshes and textures as usual.

I ran the game from OBSE.

Everything loads okay, but there's nothing new; no journal mod. :cryvaultboy:

Ah, hell. But now when I actually click on the journal the game crashes. :cryvaultboy:

...EDIT: Okay, replaced the XML file with the backup I made before copying over... :flamed:

Now it says "XML files are improperly installed, this part won't work."

I can probably figure it out, but I'm going to keep posting here for the helluvit.

It was an .XML/BTmod issue with DarkUI. It seems to be working perfectly now, but I just gotta figure things out fontwise.

Appears to be working great, thanks alot for the help everyone. I can't believe I've been living in the stone age up til now.

... I also just installed Realistic Fatigue. It's working like a charm as well, for now.

Thanks, I'm quite excited for this.

Also, after installing OBSE the game is running MUCH better. The stuttery lag when moving around in exterior cells is almost completely gone. Must be cleaning up the mess OOO made. :woot:
