Books, Books, Books....

Anyone else spend a considerable amount of time hunting down every book in oblivion?

What i'm looking for is a more a comprehensive bookcase system cause it was a pain in the ass to get a respectable personal library going in Rosethorn. Like a autoplace for shelves dedicated to the storing of books. Any other bibliophile have any thoughts?

Very good idea  . I do too love hunting down and reading books in TES. It would be cool if you could have a book shelf in one of your houses and you click on the shelf and you to your books part of your inventory. Then you select which book you want put on the shelf and then the book is on the shelf :snoring: .

My last playthrough before ES 5 im collecing them all, probably have 95% or so.

And yeah, each shelf of a bookshelf should have 20 or so auto-slots (not what youre thinking euros) that you can assign the books to, and they go in there automatically.

I, for one, took pride in placing my books using the grab in OB. Even if it took 3+ hours to arrange all my books accordingly.

I'd really appreciate that honestly. I only bothered collecting the new books that were added in Oblivion, since I got burned out collecting every piece of paper back in Morrowind. And also because the placement system was horrid in Oblivion. At least in Morrowind I had an easier time placing things on shelves without knocking the books adjacent to them off with even the smallest nudge. It made the whole experience far too tedious, especially since I was stuck on the 360 and had no access to whatever mods were made to fix the problem - if any. So a proper placement system would be perfect.

I would LOVE something like this. I spent hours placing books on shelves. I had them completely filled. I tried to "file" them or sort them as well. Journals, training books, etc.

right?

Give me the freedom to place my horn mug of aleness where i like, but the game should know where and how i would most likely want this book i'm holding in front of this bookcase.

Love books! more the merry! I also expect some awesome book mods, maybe importing all morrowind/oblivion books that don't make the cut into skyrim.

My last play through of oblivion was as a "historian" or as my roommate called him, the librarian. Had myself a nice little house with a large library for the collecting.

My only issue with the book topic is why can't we do our own writing in-game? I've posted on this and there seemed to be some interest in writing, even if it's just notes. YES you can keep a RL journal, because the in-game one can't come close to covering all the content you may wish to remember...but why miss out on immersion when this simple feature could be added? Even if it isn't implemented a mod will take care of this, oh how i love mods.

And book ends! Dragon themed? Place a book and the end slides and your shelf fills up?

I've tried and tried doing this in Oblivion. It was my duty to get every piece of lore in the game!

Then I found the testing hall... on my XBox... no point anymore... Then I spent the rest of the game with my new Mythic Dawn armor on. :)

Yeah, this would be great for your home. My assassin could have a library of "useful" info in his safehouse. Poisons, stealth, human anatomy. That would be awesome

I've always enjoyed the books in-game... I don't think that they get enough recognition.... :shakehead:

Why read words when you can just kill stuff the words tell you about?

I agree, there should be a way to set them up easily. In Morrowind, you should see my stacks and stacks in the Hlaalu manor. In Oblivion, I have a mountain of books.

Before my other computer crapped out on me, I wanted to go to the Imperial Library and read them all, from every game, and every piece of supplemental material. I did Sermons of Vivec first, then got through half the Daggerfall books before the crash. Including The Real Barenziah, which is like an erotic fanfiction only actually any good as a story beyond the ripping of bodices and khajiit wing-wong.

I went to considerable pains modding a library which meant placing every known book in the game on a shelf next to each other adjusting X,Y,Z and the rotations!

Its a nightmare. The calculations for that alone are worse than setting your table with silverware and plates with mathematical precision in the toolset. I actually enjoyed setting my table the most...

I obsessively collect books in Morrowind (at least with characters for whom it's appropriate). I tried to in Oblivion, but it's just not as satisfying, in part because seeing 10 copies of the same book lined up on shelves irritates me and in part because it's pretty much impossible to display your collection, between having to grab each book and wave it around like a drunk with Parkinson's just to get it on a shelf in the first place and the entire collection exploding in all directions if you so much as bump it.

I really, REALLY hope they've fixed both of those problems in Skyrim.....

I love when people contradict themselves in less than 5 minutes. Try thinking before posting, or don't post at all.

Anyway OT: Houses need to be more customizable, and some way of sorting your objects (books or whatever) needs to be implemented. I agree with the OP.

It was actually 12 HOURS apart. And the second post was a quote from a movie. Nice try though!

Guess it couldn't hurt. But I have to admit, I've never hunted books in Oblivion :touched:
