Books In Games: How Many Have You Read?

Post » Tue Mar 10, 2015 7:07 pm

I have played a lot of Morrowind and Skyrim, but have not gone far in Oblivion. In all 3 games there are loads of books strewn about the games. Many of them make multiple appearances, so in a "best guess" type of thing, how many have you (the player) actually read while in game, as opposed to going the http://www.imperial-library.info/?

I'm not sure how many books in all there

I guessed 50-100. I did the most reading in Morrowind. The atmosphere in Oblivion and Skyrim just isn't as conducive to reading, for me.

I guess over 100 as when I find a book I will either read it on the spot or store it for a later read.

Many times when I want to play I am not interested in fighting. Having a nice library/reading room has been a great way to kill some time and learn a little back story.

I have done this with just about every character I have played.

At the risk of sounding like the follower of a certain big fat idiot, I'm going to say "Ditto".

I think I have read maybe a handful, though what you said is always my intention. I always build a home with a library wing and fill it with all the books I pick up (I do not leave any behind). I just do not find myself making the time.

Some books I recall reading are Immortal Blood and Cabin in the Woods. I know there are some others I have read, but those 2 stick in my head :)

Learned early on when playing Daggerfall that reading the books was as much fun as playing the game. Now I read every one I find. So through Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion even discounting all the duplicates in each of the games I'm sure that I've read well over a hundred, easy.

Guess? The game tells me how many I read.

The question is: "How many have you (the player) read in all the TES games?" Some of us have played so many times and have been playing for so long we can't remember clearly and have to guess.

My guess: 101 or more.

No, the game tells you how many books you've "read" (clicked on and opened), not how many you've actually read.

True, but if I open it I read it. I told you my wife thinks it funny that I actually ~read~ the books.

(And I had to guess too, multiple games. I was being a wise rectum. )

I answered 101 or more. I've played literally hundreds of characters, in all five games, and I'm a compulsive reader, which means that a lot of my characters grab them and read them.

I also really enjoy reading them. Many of them are very well written and entertaining, and even the drier ones often give insights into the life and times of Tamriel. They make the world more real to me.

Like The Lusty Argonian Maid, what's better than Tamrielic smut? :)

Well, I consider that particular "book" to be an in-game joke. You find it in the most interesting places.

I have a rather irreverent Oblivion character (Phoebe Wicketts) who was in the habit of putting copies of that book in the chapel altars. I got a real surprise once, when I forgot about the books, and Phoebe "prayed" at one of the altars to cure a disease. There was a loud bang, and the book came flying out and hit her in the face! :)

I don't know if it works every time. The "blessing" from the altar can throw objects out of it like that, though.

Ah, ok. I thought it was specific to that item. I could see them writing an Easter egg like that into the game.

Actually I like the Wolf Queen series, the books about Palagieus and the ones about Whitestrake... actually I like all the history books.

I didn't know that either. That's a neat trick. Too bad there's no Flubber in Tamriel. Imagine the chaos. :hehe:

Actually, you make a good point. I'm half surprised we've never actually seen any slime creatures in the series, or at least in Arena or Daggerfall.

I'm sure we can get a Telvanni or something to work on that.

I feel the same way. I did all my reading in the library located in Vivec city.

I don't read a lot in the games, but I still think it's nice that the books are there. Readable books add to the realism of the world.

I've no idea how many books I've read, but I'm sure it's less than 100.

One of the few books I've read.

I'm not much of a book worm. I like the adventure and quests, mostly.

I answered 1-10
