Books in Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:21 am

So the question is simple: Which topics should be covered by the books in Skyrim? I personally hope most of the guilds, materials(special styles(like orcish) or more special materials like glass, ebony and daedric), the events since the Oblivion Crisis, and generally books about the lore of Skyrim.
What do you want to read?

Everything. Horrible answer I know, but seriously. I want to know about what happens after Oblivion. But I also want to see a lot of fictional books. More adventure type stories like An Argonian Account and A Dance in Fire.

The Lusty Argonian Maid.

The extended version.
There should also be a real time play of it.

I expect there to be at least a few on the ~200 years leading up to Skyrim, and it would be pretty cool if they could include the published books(Infernal City and I think there was one other) as ingame books maybe segmented to be a chapter a book.

Itd also be pretty cool if they hosted a short story contest where the winners get their books put in the game :P

Maiq the Liar should have written a book, and that's how we'll get his whitty comments in Skyrim. Let him totally distroy the fourth wall by having him laugh while he tells us that he was right about the dragons.

Also, I'd like to learn about what happened after Oblivion. Maybe some crazy dude returned from the SI and wrote about the new Madgod as well.

Perhaps a book explaining the lost art of horse armor forging with the last page missing?

Everything
I liked the way discovering lore was an important part of the main and Mages Guild quests in MW
In Oblivion there was only the 1 quest where discovering lore was essential that I can recall

I like the idea of having guides available as in game books. Such as a bestiary, or one on alchemy, with sample potions and where to find the required ingredients. Books telling you how to join guilds and some good spell combinations e.t.c

Yeah there should definitely be a good few on the 200 year interval between Skyrim and Oblivion as well as some of the old classics like the Lusty Argonian Maid (Maybe now it's super rare and there is a quest to find it and deliver it to the Bards' College in Solitude). I'm not expecting the to write a whole load of new books though...

Everything really. Both non-fiction (e.g. history and current affairs of Tamriel ala Dawnstar) and fiction (a new series of the misadventures of Decumus Scotti in the Summerset Isles perhaps?)

I don't want books confined to those widely known and acclaimed series though. Oblivion had some real gems that are quite forgotten; many skill books were ignored (open and close to gain the points, but don't bother to read the story). I recommend http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-mirror, quite an excellent story (as well as educational in regards to more realistic combat).

More (reliable) sources on Akavir.
The period between Oblivion and Skyrim should be covered extensively.
Skyrim's history from the first Atmoran settlers should be fleshed out.

Grey beard scriptures
Scholar accounts on... forgot the names of those long lost snow mer? (not the Dwemer)
Festive/drinking poems, though those should be sung at taverns
Long lost text's of when the Nords 1st encounter the dragons and worshiped/feared them
Adventures at sea and with sea beasts, though that should be sung as festive poems
Camp fire stories spoken like in the trailer... not really a book...
umm
Tragic werewolf stories with an emotional bond for the werewolf who will be hunted
humorous or/and interesting notes left behind by dead adventurers
More about the first settlers
Lore ect. ect.

Oh and fiction, love the fiction... particularly about thieves, though that seems a little bit misplaced in Skyrim
ABC for Barbarians... jk
A cook book containing recipes with one on how to make a yellow snow cone

More lore on Werecreatures and Vampires would be really nice. Also, an updated "Tamrielic Lore" :D

Even though he is from another realm, the Sheogorath books would be great to see. He was my favorite part of oblivion, his random responses. And never knowing if he hates or loves you, with constant threats to choke you out with your own intestines.

I absolutely agree with there being many books about what happened after the Oblivion crisis. I really want to know. Other than that, any books that concern the lore are great with me. I'm basing my character, Kvinne, on a line I read from an Oblivion book, The Battle of Sancre Tor. The Bretons and Nords allied to invade Cyrodiil at Sancre Tor and after General Talos (Tiber Septim) defeated them there, the Skyrim Generals joined with Tiber Septim because they didn't trust the Breton Battlemages anyway. The Breton captives were imprisoned or sold into slavery.

These Bretons will be Kvinne's ancestors and this bit of history forms how she feels about slavery and some other things. :)

I would probably like to see a book like Palla, which was probably my favourite in Oblivion. Also, books similar to the " A Guide to .... " books.
