Books.

What books do you want back?
What kind do you want to see more of?

I want all of them to be in the game. Even from past games. More joke books, and plays. (It would be sweet if NPC's acted out the plays)
I would love to see more of the adventures of Decumus Scotti.

I want plenty of books detailing what happened in the last 200 years, along with some ancient tomes relating to Alduin, etc.

Now that books are actual 3D rendered objects that open in your inventory, I hope there's a lot of them...

I don't really see any reason not to have every book from past games as well as new books. And as far as new books go, I'd like more short stories, as those have always been my favorite. I'd also like more books dealing with aspects of the lore (metaphysical mind-scramblers included ).

I'd like to see them take a cue from the amazing book jacket mod and give all the books unique textures.

Interactive books.

Books that give you locations, FAQ's, tips, hints at easter eggs, side quests, ect. It would be awesome if taking the time to read a book on a shelf paid off more than a random skill increase 1/50 times. Give me a reason to want to read the books.....

Maybe the long awaited sequel to "The Lusty Argonian Maid"

I wouldn't mind all the previous books plus ones that tie in what happened in between games. Maybe take some stuff from IC?

Edit: I....I've been ninja'd

One of my characters was an assassin by night, and a noble and archivist by day. You should've seen his bedroom in Rosethorn Hall!
Collecting books was one of the joys of Oblivion, and a lot of books (especially skillbooks) had pretty awesome stories. I'd love to see some of the old books make a return, as well as a surge of contemporary literature. However, I'd like books to also play more of a part in quests and finding locations and such, to give people more of an incentive to read them. Otherwise, they just seem like filler material.

I want to read about more cultural god-heroes. Think Vivec, Sotha Sil, Almalexia, Alessia, Reman Cyrodiil, Pelinal Whitestrake, Morihaus, etc. Get MK on the job. I love the Song of Pelinal. Whoever made the 36 Lessons of Vivec and Remanada are great, too.

It has been a long time since Daggerfall, but I vaguely remember a fairy tale about a princess who was turned into a grub by an evil sorceror. (edit:looked it up. 'a tale of Kieram.')
It was written with such obvious joy in the writing of it, and the punchline was so statisfying, it truly gave the world more depth to me knowing that gems as such were out there.

I remember on Morrowind hunting for all the 2920 books. It took a long time to find them all and boy was it statisfying. I didnt read any of them after finding the first one before i had the set. I wanted to read them in order and at one time.
I also spent a happy time at Jobasha's reading all the a dance in fire books. They were fascinating, funny and came to a statisfying conclusion.

Unfortunately oblivion broke the tradition a bit. There were very few new books and those that were there, most of them were not so good. Particularly the argonian account was dissapointing. It seemed to be too forcefully like the first series, but much less of a statisfying conclusion.

For Skyrim I would like to see a return to before oblivion. Lots and lots of new books. I dont mind some from previous games, but not 80% like last time.
History books, books on religion. Books on day to day life and fiction. Joke books and plays and letters.
Lots of books for me to devour!

Uh...Oblivion introduced more books to the series than Daggerfall. It broke no such tradition:

That is interesting info seti, thank you.

Would it still hold true if you compared vanilla Morrowind to vanilla oblivion though?

I am a console player and mostly only have access to vanilla editions, I cant afford to keep buying new stuff when it comes out.

It is my distinct impression that vanilla oblivion had fewer new books than vanilla Morrowind. But maybe Im wrong and it just seems that way because a lot of books were imported from Morrowind, and that was less so with Daggerfall - Morrowind.
So it could just be an illusion caused by familiarity with the Morrowind books.

I counted, once. I got about 90 original books for Daggerfall, 230 for Morrowind (with expansions and DLC), and 140 for Oblivion (with expansions and DLC). My list is a bit incomplete in that I never got around to marking them all in relation to where they are from, but if I had to guess, I would say vanilla Oblivion introduced about 100-110 books. The problem is that many of them are very rare. I'm not quite sure what Battlespire and Redguard have and I was going to make lists of all of them, eventually. I was surprised the UESP and the Imperial Library don't seem to have any such lists, but maybe I just haven't searched hard enough. I'm not sure.

Yes, that is a good point. Morrowind did not have books as random loot, there were usually 2 or more editions of each rare book out there, in a tomb or someones house. In oblivion you got them in random loot and quests. Wich makes bear season a favorite quest of mine, I often get a lovely book.

I dont know how to make a link in this msg, but try searching on uesp for: lore-books-by-game

What I'd think would be a good idea is to have books with a use. For example if you travel to an old fort and look in the library. finding a book in a dusty, old shelf hidden at the back of the room giving a riddle based upon some lore which you need another book to figure out. The riddle could be a clue another hidden book etcetera, etcetera until you find a hidden room with lord so and so's hidden treasure somewhere in skyrim.

Thereshould be at least 150 books, each of which would have an average of 15-20 pages.

The problem was that they included every book that was in the game, including ones taken from previous games, in those lists, and it was all mixed together.
