Boone gets a Tshirt?

So I read that once boone joins your party he is supposed to get some cool armor. For me he only has a merc grunt outfit. Is there any way for me to get him his good armor. Thanks in advance.

You have to do his quests first.Even then the armor is only a cosmetic change.

Are we talking after completing the frst or second boone quest.

Just to clarify is he supposed to get new armor after completing the very first companion quest or after the second?
