I started the quest to help Boone get revenge and the person who sold his wife. I figured out it was Jeanie May from Novac. But I accidently used Boone's hat to repair a normal beret. Will a normal one still work? Can I no longer finish this quest?

I'm quite sure it has to be Boone's beret since I expect the quest script is written to that particular beret.

I let my beret reach 0% repair now I can't do the quest :S
