Border disabling

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 9:17 pm

Hey, so I was trying to disable the borders for Cyrodill for a mod. Anyway, I can't. I went into the file "oblivion_default.ini" and changed "bEnableBorderRegion=1" (or a similar name, it's on a different computer so I can't check right now) to the same thing but with 0 instead of 1. I double checked that I had saved it, but going into the game, it still didn't work. What could I have done wrong? It's still set to 0 when I go back into the file.

It's not at all advisable to change the file you just changed. If I were you, I would change it back, and make no more changes too, just for good measure.

The one you're after is simply Oblivion.ini (generally under My Documents\My Games\Oblivion (but YMMV)). Change *that* one instead. *Never* the other one.

Okay, don't worry, problem solved anyway (my brother was helping).

There are a few select changes (enabling screenshots, disabling borders, disabling dialog zoom, ect, ect) that I always want in every game and making these changes to my default .ini saves me the time of making the changes anew each and every time I generate a new one.

Fair enough.

To each their own. It's probably something to do with my line of work, slightly unusual education, or something, but when it comes to configuration files* and the like, I'm... a "purist", I suppose.

I keep it all as clean and simple and "close to the source" as possible, which can help in a variety of ways. But anyway. Really more to do with, as I said, the way I go about things.

And I'd still recommend that approach to others, even if I'm not about to go enforcing it. Even if I could. ;)

* Talking default files, such as the one in question, here.

How does one disable Dialogue zoom?

You could try setting the value of "fDlgFocus" higher. That's what I do, though there might be another way - it's a big ini file! :)

edit: I think mine's set somewhere between 4 and 5. Maybe... 4.5? Anyway, see what works for you, of course.
