As far as im concerned that comparison is as poor as the silly cod comparisons.

The only thing the 2 games got in common that other shooters generally don't have is the lack of Ohk.

As for graphics, they don't look like borderlands, the colors have some similarities, but the style is COMPLETLY diffrent.

To be fair, plenty of shooters these days have RPG elements.

edit: since when does borderlands have gun customization ?

And yes, the comparison is poor, that's why i don't use it as a comparisson myself. Tho alot of people do in the comments for Brink videos on youtube.

The biggest similarities between the two would be the RPG elements and the graphics. But can't say much other than that.

Hate to be the one who called it, but it's all about the shanty aesthetic. Anyone who played it knows that 99% of Borderlands is in said shanty aesthetic, and anyone who doesn't know anything sbout Brink will immediatly associate container city with rust commons.

For the millionth time, THERE IS NO GUN CUSTOMIZATION IN BORDERLANDS.

Personally I'd draw similarities in the skill selection, and also that post-apocalyptic shanty-like aesthetic of the Resistance, as ImmortalDrifter said.

the only thing people were comparing to Borderlands is the Graphics.
This topic is funny because you researched the game enough to know people compared it to Borderlands but didn't read what was compared?

Borderlands looks kind of cel shaded to me, while Brink does not. Probably just because not many shooters nowadays use such vivid colors.

Well at least Brink doesn't outline every single texture in the game a thick black!

People are comparing Brink to Call of Duty, Borderlands, Team Fortress 2, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and everything in between.

Personally I don't know why. Everyone should accept Brink for Brink and screw the labels.

Well, it's not customisation, it's randomisation. The game chooses what gun to make, you have no input. You can't change your weapon yourself in any way, so there is no customisation.

"Customization" implies that you as a player are given the opportunity to personalize your experience by CUSTOMISING elements. In Borderlands, you are not; you are given a weapon with pre-determined elements at random, out of billions, and you will damned well like what you're given too because there isn't a thing you can change about it without skills or COMs.

As JORRRG mentioned, customization =/= randomization.

Tf2 us similiar because of the classes, enemy territory and quake wars was developed by SD so they are similar in quite a few ways.

Honestly, I think people are just making comparisons based on art direction. Those of us "in the know" may think people are making comparisons based on weapon randomization and customization, but really, you have to look at it from an - and not meaning to be offensive - ignorant point of view, aka screenshots and videos. To use another game as an example, TERA looks like another point-and-click Korean MMORPG grindfest in videos and images, when in fact, it's quite the opposite (save for it actually being Korean.)

At a glance, it's easy to see why people may make the link between Brink and Borderlands observing that both have shanty towns and cartoony, elongated faces. Most people realize after doing a little research that Borderlands and Brink are really very different games.

As for comparing to TF2 or ET:QW, well, those are both class based games, one of which is by SD. They're probably prime candidates to compare to, that latter most especially.

As for comparing to CoD: we can't save these people unless they want to be saved.

When talking to my less informed friends about it, I compare Brink to: Shadowrun, Borderlands, Monday Night Combat, Enemy Territory, and Mirrors Edge.
