Boredom of skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 14, 2013 12:35 am

Does anyone have any of those days where the game just isn't fun to play and you are just forcing yourselves to play? I spent all day looking for build ideas but when I try to play it feels like I'm forcing myself to play.

Sure, and not only days but weeks. I just don't play if I don't enjoy it. It passes sooner or later and when you return to Skyrim after a break, it feels fresh again.

I felt like this after the first few weeks. The game is too dumbed down to enjoy and it isn't helped by the terrible writing. And builds don't simply work anymore seeing how they have gutted out half the skills and made the levelling system result in every person who plays this games character's turn out the same.

I will not argue with the first part as it's not the place for it, but the last sentence is blantantly false. I have several characters and they all play differently. You'll only end up with identical characters if you use every single skill and legendary them over and over again to get every perk, but that's your choice and not the game's fault.

Still limits what you can do with the lack of skills. 27 to 18 in two games. And lack of attributes makes my characters end up the same. As well from youtube videos every person has the same character: Full daedric jack of all trades with a conjured daedra.

20 mln sold copies of Skyrim and how many Youtube videos?

It's always your own decision, the game doesn't force it on you. You could become a jack-of-all-trades in Morrowind and Oblivion too, in fact it was easier than in Skyrim because now you need perks to max out a skill and they were limited until the last patch.

I agree that previous games offered more variety, but it doesn't mean that Skyrim doesn't have any.

There are lulls in the excitement when you get out of good questlines. I always manage to find another good line of quests to keep me entertained. But yeah, I know what you're saying.

Not really. All of my characters are very different from the last one and are extremely specialized in the skills they have. I also don't do every quest with all characters. Last time I did the Dark Brotherhood was June last year and last time I did the Thieves guild was around Feb. last year. I haven't done Companions or Civil War since 2011. So when I do them again they will feel somewhat fresh.

You just take a break, and come back to it, if you want to. It's bound to happen, with any game.

Skyrim isn't perfect, but you're lying out your ***. From Morrowind to Skyrim we really didn't lose that much in a practical sense. Things were simply rearranged.

Spear skill was redundant as the entire weapon skill system was redundant as a whole. They could have kept spears in the game under 2 hand and Skyrim would be no different than it is now, you'd just have a different weapon skin. Long Blade still exists under 2 hand. Axe and blunt were parted out to both 1 and 2 hand. Short blade is now under 1 hand. You can still perk into any of those subskills for specialization. No body does because the game itself doesn't provide much use of them, but the option is still there.

Medium armor was absorbed into heavy and light (orc went heavy and the bone stuff could go either depending which bone we're talking in skyrim). But even then, people are suffering nostalgia. Medium was useless in Morrowind and until the expansion came out, the best medium armor had a LOWER armor rating than the best light armor, its a stupid complaint to say we lost medium.

Mercantile still exists under persuasion.

Unarmed is useless in Skyrim but you can still fight unarmed. And unlike Morrowind, it actually damages health from onset (granted, if you consider that minimal amount to be damage)

Mysticism is the only magic skill we really "lost" and that was only about half the skill of spells, the rest were absorbed into alteration.

Restoration lost spells but the skill still exists and the spells that were removed were because they no longer have a use since stats were removed. And to be fair, its been given offensive anti undead spells that didn't exist before.

Acro and athletics were lost because the way the game world is now created with instanced towns. svcks but that's the trade off for having more people in the cities and limits of technology.

Armorer still exists its just been made better. I'll take making my own gear over simply repairing crap.

And you can argue enchanting has been gutted by removing the depth that it used to have, and I'll agree there.

So there you go; acro, athletic and PART of enchant, mysticism and resto (although I'd say resto has been made more useful on the whole actually).

Haven't played in several days now and am taking a much needed break. Sometimes you just need to get away from it for a while.

I have that eventually. Everyone has that, but if you're dedicated and love the game, you'll find a time when you're just dying to play again. I've taken a break for about a month, so I'm itching to get back into it right now.

Take a few weeks away from the game. Then if you have PC, get some mods that change up characters and/or perks or something. Maybe even a full-on overhaul mod.

I played with one character for about 4 months (real time, not game time). When I got a bit bored, I bought Dawnguard. Played some more. Then bought Hearthfire. Played some more. Then decided to try the challenge of a pure mage and have been entertained with that for a few weeks. That has made it almost a completely different game - very hard initially to resist the habit and to pull out a bow or sword and sneak. And I'm picking the opposite choices eg. Vampires instead of Dawnguard. When I start getting bored again, I'll buy Dragonborn. Eventually I guess I'll get bored of the whole thing and stop, and considering what the game costs, I'd well and truly consider that I got my money's worth of entertainment.

Not to mention the amusemant of these forums!

Why waste your time playing a game that you hate so much?

Exactly this. After playing Skyrim almost non-stop since I bought my new PC, I'm now quite burned out. I'm currently playing Rome: Total War, while waiting for Crusader Kings II to arrive. I'll be back in Tamriel soon enough, but it's nice to have a break from the series every now and then.

If you're forcing yourself to play a game, it's not a game anymore. Just drop it, do something else, and when the mood hits you, go back to it again.

Oh dear god no.

NEVER play a game when you don't want to. That's how you ruin it for yourself. That isn't fun. Playing when you want to is fun, and taking a day or a few days break is perfectly fine, and healthy.

I haven't played Skyrim in a while, I probably will play it, but I feel I'm pretty much done with it in terms of playing it, aside from occasionally.

Same here. I've finished the entire game ten times over. I played it today only to help a friend out with his quests. Other than that I haven't touched it in months.

I faced a period of boredom until what build have I not tried yet popped into my mind. My previous character was having an awesome time as a combat archer/conjurer/illusionist but faced too much lag/freee ups after making her in the latest patch :/ Hope Beth will make one more patch for stability issues :prays:

I go days, weeks, even months without playing. Sometimes from burnout, othertimes some other game grabs my attention (State of Decay ftw), but I always end up coming back.

As others have said, take a break. It may only take a couple of days or it could be weeks.

But you'll come back I promise you and you'll love it again :D !
