Post » Mon May 07, 2012 3:00 pm

Im playing a wood elf currently in skyrim... I was wondering if Bosmer diets consist solely of raw meats. Can anyone educate me?

Well I suppose Bosmer might cook their dead before they cannibalize them.

The traditional Bosmer diet is meat, meat, meat.

This includes raw meats such as in Thalmor seviche, roasted meats such as in Imga r?ti, stewed meats such as in Colovian-in-a-pot, and even fermented meat juices such as in Rotmeth.

If I understood A Dance In The Fire properly -- and bearing in the mind that within the setting it is a work of fiction -- Bosmer believe they must not in any way harm the plantlife of their homeland. So, they do not eat fruits or vegetables that grow in their homeland, or use its wood for tools or construction materials. They eat primarily meat, and construct bows and arrows from bone.

However, that proscription does not extend to plant matter that comes from beyod their homeland, and will import wood for use as a construction material, for example.

So a Bosmer living far from Valenwood may choose to eat vegetables or drink wine, though they'd likely be hesitant, as would anyone considering strange and unfamiliar food. Someone who's a few generations removed from Valenwood may be used to the local diet.

Try doing the Namira daedric quest in Skyrim. Should suit your bosmer Green Pact needs.

People. No joke. If you want to play a hardcoe bosmer, then you'll ONLY eat meat and NEVER EVER harm or use any plant life.

No beans, as they're part of a plant, and Chianti was made with graqes, which are from plants. Therefore, no bosmer will be like Hannibal. Instead, it'd be Liver with kidneys and a nice fermented blood ale.

Bosmeri culture is full of references to the green pact regarding their diet, bosmer born in Valenwood won't even touch a plant even if they are outside of Valenwood, its a bit against their religious and cultural beliefs, hence why cannibalism of their own kind, beastfolk, other mers and humans was actually legal back when the empire controlled Valenwood due to the empire allowed cultural beliefs to be held.

You know, they do eat venison and cow and sheep, etc. They aren't JUST cannibals.

That being said, I like the little detail of Bosmer units fasting before they go into battle.

I like to imagine said Bosmeri units being kitted with special knives reserved for after the battle...

The eating of the dead (relatives and enemies) is more of a ritualistic thing among the Bosmer than a nutrional one. They are hunters so they eat game and they cook the meat, they don't eat it raw. So hunting animals and eating them would be just fine to RP a tradiional Bosmer. Also you might want to wear fur or hide armor and use a bow that isn't made out of wood since tradional Bosmer don't use any plant materials at all.

The Bosmer are in an alliance with the Valenwood, like the German Empire was in an alliance with Austria. Bosmer refuse to harm the Valenwood, just like Germany refused to shoot at Austria. Bosmer are free to chop down Hist, or eat Colovian rice, just as Germany was free to invade France.

A bosmer would, however, have to be careful regarding how they cook their meat, because a wood fire is a no-no.

They are like carnivours in the same way poeple are vegetarians. For moral reasons. Also they are cannibals.

What could a Bosmer as for fuel, anyway? Choice lumps of fat? Fish oil? Cookware enchanted with fire spells?

In the tree-scarce praries of Oklahoma, many settlers used what were called cow chips as fuel. Dried dung, essentially. Though magic fire makes fuel sources redundant, I'd bet.

Green Pact only applies to Valenwood Forest. If you import lumber, you're good by it's terms.

Course as a cultural thing, I'd bet they wouldn't do much plant using anyways.
