Bosmer Lore

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:53 pm

Hi,

I want to start a new Bosmer character, but I can't find much lore about it. Like the Green Pact, I know that it says they can't cut trees or eat plants and ened to eat the people they slay within 3 days but not a clear text about what the Green Pact exacly is.

And The Imperial Library page about Wood Elves only gives the Wood Elves' discription of all the TES games and a list of their gods, not a single thing about there culture/habits (that's the right word I hope). And btw, I realy think the Imp. Library is realy unclear and got a awful lay-out, I like UESP-wiki much more but UESP nearly haven't got any lore :(.

Do you have some info/links to pages with info etc.

Thanks in advance

You have to navigate a bit more, I think. I barely started visiting the Imperial Library about two days ago, and 'The Pocket Guide, Third Edition' seems to help.

The entry on http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/valenwood.shtml.

THe Greenpact is between Bosmer [who follow their traditional relegion], and Y'ffre (God of the Forest), that he may grant them shelter, and safety (and the ablility to join in the Wild Hunt), and a Physical Unchanging Form as long as they don't cut down/hurt the trees/plants (though it is a grey area for the places outside of Valenwood weither they are allowed to use timber, etc).

Once you filter out the bias, the http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/ also sheds some light on the Bosmer, as well as http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/danceinfire.shtml. Looking at TIL and searching for keywords like Green Pact, Meat Mandate and Wild Hunt should also yield some insight.

There's not a lot of Lore on the Bosmer, because nobody likes the Bosmer.

NOT EVEN THE DEVS.

On the subject of Bosmer, I always thought that they were more prone to diseases; both physical and mental. There is a distinct majority of them in SI, and they always seem to be a bit too... emotional. Eating each others' brains probably does that to you.

They are most often used as comic relief, unfortunately.

That's an interesting thought. But I don't really see the denizens of Valenwood dropping like flies to yellow fever. It's more that they are easily... unhinged. Remember the Wild Hunt. Not much seperates them from their myriad forms of the Dawn Era. It's like Aldmeris if Aldmeris was a hostile hallucination that choked Altmer to death.

I was merely suggesting that you don't see Bosmer discussing their problems rationally. Many just flip out or go all egotistical and defensive.

Thanks all!

But don't you think that the Bosmer in-game look to fat:
http://www.uesp.net/w/images/Thoronir.jpg I think they should look more like: http://www.uesp.net/w/images/Bosmer_official.jpg

Offcource they should be small but small and fat just looks too stupid.

That's just a game mechanic flaw Oblivion has; alot of the Characters looked chubby, not neccesarily just the Bosmer (though, I would think it would be more noticable when they are shorter than every other race).

But then again, Bosmers are generally used for comic releif (but this can be over looked when you realise they could change into insane monsters that can rip out your guts in the blinking of an eye).

For persepctive, remember that Muslims in the Royal Navy sure as hell ate the salt pork, as it was the only thing practically available.

In Morrowind, Bosmers actually had a high resistance to diseases.
They also receieve a bonus in the Alchemy skill.

A Bosmer will not hesitate to cut a vine in half with a machete, no matter how devout he may be. Eating things has alot significance, culturally and mythically, IRL as well.

I imagine that outside Valenwood, lots of Bosmer eat plant products.

I actually enjoy the Bosmer race,Anyway there are some books that might give you some insight in Oblivion,as it has been a while since I played Oblivion I just can't remember the name but I read it several times it is refering to the wars where they had chopped down trees to lure out the woodelves. And it goes into some of Bosmer tradations.I hope this is somewhat helpful. Also, the Bosmer are less prone to catch illnesses and have alchemy bonuses.Just thinking for a second I think the book had something about the black marsh.

A few fun facts about our creepy little friends:

1. Most of them don't eat plants or plant products.
2. At funerals they eat their dead.
3. They eat everything they kill. Not just animals.
4. The other elves see them as inferior and primitive.
5. They seem to be more prone to be bat-[censored] insane then other races.
