A Bosmer

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 6:18 am

So here we go, I have three saved game, one started today which is my first magic character. A long term Imperial save (He's like my hero, he does the main quest and NotN) and my main save which is my Wood Elf. I like a lot of people on here RP and try and fit my characters in with the Lore. I use alchemy with my Imperial character which only occasionally comes in use, but my Bosmer would really benefit from alchemy as he is not the strongest of persons and potions would help him in combat. Some of you may know that the Bosmer has a Green Pact; which is a Bosmer can't destroy any plant life. Now this pact is only stated in Valenwood, so this is my question. Could a Wood Elf pick planet life in Cyrodiil? Or is the pact in place for the whole of Tamriel? If the latter is there away for me to pick and use nature?

EDIT: Planet to Plant

I think you meant "plant". Could a Wood Elf pick plant life in Cyrodiil? I would say yes. Wood Elves traditionally can use natural resources to their advantage, although by "traditionally" I'm talking D&D. Not sure what TES has to say about this.

The Green Pact applies to Bosmer wherever they go, not just in Valenwood. So you have to figure out if your character obeys the Pact. If he was born in Valenwood, he almost surely does. If he was born outside of Valenwood, it's possible he doesn't. It depends on how Imperialized he is. How many generations has his family lived outside of Valenwood?

How many Bosmer do you see that eat the enemies they kill? I think the Green Pact is something a lot less widely followed than many would believe.

Mcleod, for me, as long as said Bosmer is intune with nature, I'm sure it would be fine.

I do have a lot of hours on this game and so far stayed away from plant life. I just think it would benefit my character more if I could use them, but that isn't a good enough reason for me to start using.

I have studied the 'Green Pact' and, as a roleplayer patently rejected it for my purposes long ago.

It's ok to eat a deer, but you cannot eat the grass that the deer eats?!? It's ok to use a wooden bow, but only if the wood does not come from Valenwood?!? If you live in Valenwood and it gets a tad chilly or you want to cook some venison, you cannot use local dead wood to make a fire?!? Instead, you pay someone outside Valenwood to strip their forests instead of yours?!? I quickly found that trying to roleplay such a philosophy degraded into silliness and reasonable questions from my characters to which there are no good answers. This topic has been debated several times here, and for a very long time, I have rejected the Green Pact.

That is the beauty of a single player game. I consider it an epic failure on the part of Bethesda, given the 'close to nature' philosophies that abound to choose from. In my game, the Green Pact simply does not exist - either in Cyrodiil or in Valenwood.

My Bosmer act much more like some tribes of American Indians in that they respect the plants and creatures of the forest, take only what they need and fully utilize what they do take. They happily eat, make potions and otherwise fully enjoy the bounty of their forests. Those who craft arrows and bows do not hesitate to collect the wood they need for that purpose.

I also find it curious that Bethesda gave a +10 to alchemy bonus to the 'Green Pacters', yet the majority of alchemy ingredients are plant based. Lol.

Although counter to lore in this case, I am very satisfied with the way I do business in this matter. :foodndrink:

Key words 'of Valenwood'. So, by my understanding, a Wood Elf can follow the Green Pact and still use plants and wood etc, as long as it didn't originate from Valenwood. So OP would still be lore friendly to pick plants from Cyrodiil.
Also, other Races seem to be allowed to build and use plants/wood. However, the last sentence is a bit confusing. I think it means that nobody can harm plant life from Valenwood.

I hope that TES:VI is set in Valenwood (and Elsweyr, those to provinces would be o for awesome), because I want to see how BGS would implement the Green Pact, if at all.
