Bosmer (Wood Elf) Look and Personality

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 1:05 pm

I wants Bosmer to have heads like this: http://uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-NPCs-AengothTheJeweler.jpg
except with a better hair-style, and completely black eyes...

I want something new. They said they were changing up the races so that it'll be easier to tell them all apart, so I'd suspect Bosmer are in for a bit of an overhaul.

I most certainly hope so. I guess we'll just have to wait for more screenshots.

I want variety with every race. With the introduction of different body types, I'm hopeful that we'll see more variation within each race.

It would be nice to see the various types of Khajiti.

As long as we get control over the height and body style, I really don't care. Something new would be good, I guess.

Bosmers are the most annoying race in TES. I sure hope theres a another annoying Bosmer in Skyrim and a giant cliff to push him off.

The Mane would be interesting to see, too.

It seems like you just find Bosmer personalities as quirky. Each elf race has its own quirkiness whether it be the aloof dunmer or the haughty altmer. Bosmer are just more open and less constrained by social stigmas than the other elf races so you imagine they're odd.

Not that, but every "insane" character in oblivion seems to be a Bosmer lol.

Lets hope there is no Bosmer like Glarthir or the adoring idiot in Skyrim.

Bosmers are pretty much like Halflings.

... and halflings can be pretty cool sometimes I guess.

Really? I can't believe everyone hates the Oblivion Bosmer! I hated that the men were so...short...but over all I liked them. I don't understand why people want elves to be so drastically different than humans in their appearance--I think I read that someone wanted them to look more like "aliens" (as if any of us really knows what an "alien" looks like, anyway). I think human-looking but with pointed ears and slightly different features is ideal. I've never heard of elves being so very different than humans, as far as appearances go. I voted to keep them more like Oblivion, but if they change anything, I hope they make the male wood elves a little taller and certainly less pudgy--stretch them out a bit... :tes:

Not to be nitpicky

Ok... not to be nitpicky... haha, but you just were... Sry I should have clarified that all I meant to say is that I like how they look further away from human beings and more like creatures. Similarly SOME of the Morrowind Bosmer also were closer to this creature-like look, like you said. That's all I was saying. I don't want them to be exactly like MTG elves (which I know are very varied). Jeez you guys need not over anolyze everything a person says.

The "Wild Elves" in the picture of D&D you posted is a pretty sick look for the Bosmer in my opinion. TBH I'd like anything as long as it is different looking from humans, and has a more "wild" style, if you catch my drift.

Morrowind Bosmer also had horns. Well, one of the head models had horns. http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/horned_bosmer_01.jpg?

I also liked the black sclera, it really helped give the Bosmer an animal-like and alien appearance.

EDIT: Not unlike the Khajiit, the Bosmer in the early days of Nirn's creation had no fixed form. Azura bound the Khajiit form to the Lunar Lattice (the two moons), while Y'ffre bound the Bosmer's form to the Earthbones. In times of great need, Bosmer can break these bonds and turn back into their wild-n-crazy form (see "A Dance in the Fire" for a description of the Wild Hunt), but they can't turn back into Bosmer after that.

all the races in OB looked pretty much the same, but after hearing how they're going about character creation, I'm guessing there will be a lot more racial variety.

There are only a few things I want from the Bosmer, and from all the races, for that matter -

I want them to be distinct. Not just shorter or taller or painted a different color or with a few extra points of this or that in the beginning that don't matter anyway since every race maxes at the same point - I want them to be fundamentally different from each other, with permanent advantages and disadvantages.

I want them to follow the lore. I want to see cunning, savage, yet joyous hunters and warriors, sprung from a culture that's happily carnivorous and ritualistically cannibalistic - not drearily sly merchants intermixed with the occasional annoying loon.

And speaking of annoying loons - that joke's old. Set it aside. I'm no more interested in seeing yet another annoyingly loony Bosmer than I am in turning on the TV and seeing a shucking and jiving black pimp in a fur hat and platform shoes. It's a tired, lame and tedious stereotype and any dev who can't come up with something better than that should honestly be in a different line of work.

I say a completely new look, because i didn't like the way Bosmers looked in any elder scrolls game tbh.

They've svcked since Morrowind. Where are the cool-looking, tough guys from pre-Morrowind days?

Bosmer? Tough?!
Hahahahaha.

Your tough bosmer is hiding behind that nicely placed rock.

i think that ever since oblivion, wood elves are kind of like gnomes with world of warcraft; nobody, not even the developers, take them that seriously.

My only issue with using the MTG example you gave was it isn't even a mammal. Other MTG depictions have then with huge horns which is also a bit too far flung for my tastes. The MTG example that someone posted on a previous page in response to your prior example is actually another good model for elves.

I always appreciated the illustrations in D&D manuals personally and I agree that the Wild Elves is very appealing as a good standard for the Bosmer; They have animal pelts and look dirty just as you'd expect a race that is close to animals to be. I agree with your criticism of human looking elves, Oblivion's elf models all looked like humans with long ears and a different complexion.

I've always pictured woodelves to be hunters with wild animalistic traits. I have yet to play Daggerfall or see any PC races in Third Person.

The woodelves in Morrowind weren't much better than Oblivion's, because the males were too squat looking, though it could be fixed some with the construction set. Idk how they look in Daggerfall but based on the description of them nothing said anything about the males being short. They need to look more... elf-like. More lithe and wild looking, so I guess animalistic, but not like Morrowind's.

I want them to look like the Oblivion concept art http://images.wikia.com/oblivion/images/b/b8/WoodElf.gif except with black eyes and a slightly more alien looking face a bit like Morrowind.
