Bosmerian Rituals

It doesnt matter who cuts the wood, but where the wood is standing. The Green Pact was made specifically with the Valenwood Forrest. If an Imperial cuts Valenwood Forrest Im sure thats a crime against provinical laws, too. But if he imports it from elsewhere, the Bosmer will use it - happily so, in fact, considering the only other souce of wood would be dead wood, which is not so great for construction...

Part of the rational and basis for the mod/writings I have done center around Bosmer reaction to Imperial attempts to log Valenwood and build there.

The way I approach it is that there will be Bosmer who see the Green Pact as something to be 'worked around' and manipulated and others who see it as inviolate. With the mass just following on according to their own interests. I also have an angle on the cannibalism thing that puts it into perspective.

And maybe that is what it's all about - from whose perspective is a thing right or wrong?

The way I present it is that the Bosmer in the Cities are fundamentally more 'reasonable' in the eyes of the Imperials and far more lax about where a thing comes from so long as their hands are clean, although they have customs that are hard for Imperials to comprehend - cannibalism for one.

However I posit in my modding that there are 'purist' Bosmer who live in smaller communities deeper in the forest who do not see it that way, and they are in far deeper touch with Yffre and can feel Yffre awakening in response to the damage that is being done to the Forest at it's perifery - including the burning that occurred when the Bosmer and the Khajiit had their war. These Bosmer (astonishingly enough) see the city practice of cannibalism as barbaric and a desecration of Yffre's true will and the original Pact. It all being a matter of interpretation.

However although I base my writings and thinkings on interpretation of actual in-game Lore/books I am sure there are those in the Lore Forum who would not be comfortable with this approach here - hence I have to be careful and say be sure that you understand what is my own view that has not been ratified by Beth. At the end of the day I recommend you read the game books first before you chat with people on the forum here. The first book being the Morrwindy book titled: A Dance in the Fire. And do not limit your reading to Oblivion ... that stands on books from the previous 5 games - Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire, Redguard, Morrowind - and a fair amount of new writings (some by devs) in the Imperial Library - find that site through the elderscrolls.com homepage.

It's worth mentioning that the main character in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:The_Rear_Guard has no qualms about eating things like bread and apples, despite being a Bosmer. However, as someone mentioned, he seems to be culturally assimilated into other climates and traditions, although he still thinks of other Bosmer as his "clansmen."

Cor! Another book I had forgotten - thanks. Solitude and Farrun being kingdoms of the North - Breton? Those were not Valenwood apples the new Count of Cascabel was eating with such relish :)

This IS a discussion about the Bosmers rituals and such so it should be focused on such questions and ideas.
Not anything else since then this thread will be locked even before we have had a chance to go to the good ol' CHIM discussion.

And if enough Bosmer violate the pact, Jeffre might strike them with instability again, who knows?

Prehaps that's part of the Wild Hunt? By breaking the Green Pact, they are released from their bounded form, and are set loose to change at will, however once the plant material (of the Forests of Jeffre) leaves their body they once again become fixed into whatever shape they last changed into?

The Wild Hunt seems to be well under Bosmerian control, mor eor less, and is used to Bosmerian advantage. I think its just a ritual - Jeffre would notice over time that such a punishment is none at all, too.

Though I do wonder how Green pact and stability are related to each other. Is Green Sap, Valenwoods Tower, so weak it needs extra umph tonot detsbailise, somehow provided by the pact? Or is the Valenwood Forrest an extension of it, maybe?
