[RELz] BOSS for Fallout 3

The latest masterlist completely borked my load order. While some stuff was in proper place, it moved around a bunch of things that I had been told had to load in certain spots. Is BOSS-F not working properly???

Not that it is not working right - it is just that there is not a set load order standard for all load orders at this time. BOSS is a tool really for automating load orders. As I mentioned above BOSS for oblivion has been around for a year and a half and I still rarely run it in my data folder because I'm always testing things out and trying new mods that it may not recognize. My load order is MY responsibility.

As this thing takes off it might be worth mentioning to people how to back up their load orders with FOMM. You can find that option off the top bar (called file) in FOMM then right click for the context menu then come down to export load order this will then create a txt file with your load order that looks like this:

Save this file and then if you want that load order back find that same context menu and click import load orer and find this file again and it will rearrange the load order accordingly. You can even make variations.

But really this is nothing compared to what I deal with in Oblivion, where I have over 400 mods that just esp/esm and at least another 100-200 of replacers and other such things.

Mez-

I agree with Arthmoor - once the reports start pouring in people will fill that thing up fast and you will be verging on over a 500 before you know it and exponentially up from there. Since there are popular overhauls the key elements are going to be finding if and how they work together, then annotating the master list with what works with what, or to seek an update, etc.

Even in this master plan load order of oblivion people are still reporting small conflcits and suggesting nudging things this way and that way. And it is at times a forum or jumping off point for finding resolutions to conflcits.

Well it's all good. Like I have mentioned before my knowledge of load ordering isn't the greatest (but I'm learning). I'm actually getting the worst kind of crashes now-the dreaded random ones that happen for no apparent reason (as in there's no logical reason for them to happen because they seem to happen at any time or place). The more accurate BOSS-F gets, the better things will be though. I used BOSS with Oblivion to try to learn what went where, not to replace my responsibility to properly arrange my load order...

Le tme know which bits have been randomly jumbled around, and also if changing there position has any effect on crashes.

It's all well and good looking for conflicts in FO3edit, but it's no substitute for actually playing with your load order :D

I see that the Masterlist for Fallout has been added to the http://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/source/browse/FO3Masterlist/masterlist.txt page. Is this going be the primarly location for this then? That works well enough for me if that's the case.

Do I also understand correctly that BOSS and the mod sorter in the upcoming version of FOMM will both use this same list?

Lastly, I have a few comments for the FWE section:

FO3 Wanderers Edition - Lvl 30 More Skills.esp
?? Use either "FO3 Wanderers Edition - Lvl 30 Balance" OR "FO3 Wanderers Edition - Lvl 30 More Skills" remove the double ??

Very nearly. fomm has some extra tags that show and hide warnings depending on which other mods are active, so I've replaced a lot of the ? comments with : and " tags to make use of it. The order itself is the same.

Edit: Any interest in doing the same thing in BOSS btw? It seems a bit of a waste always printing out 'Requires xxx' comments when you have the load order already sitting in front of you to check against.

Uh... I goofed on lines #153 - 159: It's "MyFOOK2 - Black & White Tranquility Lane.esp" and the other MyFOOK2 plugins also need a '2'. Wups...

Nah, I just tried the list you gave me, and it still crashes\freezes.. :(

The unknown mods are down to one..

Action Boy Hacking + Zumbs' Overhauled Real Time Security(I think this effects hacking, it may be FOOK, something changed it..)..

Fixed that for you :) During installation of ZORTS, you have to decide if you want to disable the hacking minigame or not.

If you choose to disable the minigame, it will not start. I'm unsure if this gives problems with Action Boy Hacking. The http://www.pc-game-mods.com/download/fallout3/hackingiseasier.php I could find on http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Action+Boy+Hacking%22 seems to be down at the moment, but the http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:mBTr89P7EUQJ:www.pc-game-mods.com/download/fallout3/hackingiseasier.php+%22Action+Boy+Hacking%22 says it works by making it so there is only 1 word when you hack any terminal in Fallout 3, which suggests that Action Boy Hacking will likely not work when activating a terminal.

If the minigame is left enabled, there should be no problems, as ZORTS uses another entry point to start hacking (press 'H'), bypassing the minigame all together. This last point is why there should be no conflicts with FOOK or FWE, even though they include Explosive Entry and Menu Based Hacking and Picking. When the minigame is enabled, Action Boy Hacking should work correctly.

Sorry bout the name mix up..

I decided to use your mod instead of action boy hacking, so it's not really an issue. :)

But it's nice to know that we can rule that out as the cause of my intro crashes..

Claviticus: Knock W4NK up a notch so it's loading before DIK and place FOOK's EVE plugin directly after FOOK2 - Main.esp. In both instances, IIRC, those will be inadvertantly overwriting their counterparts.

I don't know how plausible this is, but I have a feature request. Is there anyway that you could make boss parse some sort of tag for unknown mods? for example, putting in the esp file name would put it in the general area of other weapons mods, would be for clothing, that sort of thing? It would make maintaining the masterlist alot easier, I would think, with only specific, must place in this position mods needing to be added to it.

It would also make it alot easier for folks who don't know alot about load orders to rearrange mods that still cause trouble, since they'll know roughly where mods of those type generally belong.

So far, Alternate Start Roleplayers isn't noticed in the masterlist, if this was already rectified, I apologize but I didn't see it mentioned in the thread unless I'm blind.

I noticed that Busworld 1.05 can be unstable but the alternate esp called BusworldV1.05noexpl.esp is far more stable so it is recommended for people having problems with the normal version. Also thank you for fixing your load order for Robco Certified so it is below the Builable robots and the addon.

Forget what I said about Robco Certified being in the right place since it isn't. It shows in the list as being above Buildable Robots and the addon that makes both work together. When I use BOSS it puts Robco Certified below Buildable Robots and the addon which is the wrong place and causes a crash. The way it shows in the list is correct but what is does when I run the program is different.

EDIT: Nevermind like the person above me said it was in there twice and the first one was the correct one but was being overwritten by the second one.

In the NPC section there there should be a question mark before

Requires both MMM and Point Lookout DLC

after Project Beauty- Point Lookout MMM.esp.

Edit:
Fellout-SOTD.esp should come immediately after Fellout-Full.esp and both should have a comment to use only one.

In Weapons section there seems to be an incomplete line: HZ_M92SE

Searching the Nexus for that found nothing. From a quick google it should be HZ_M92SE.esp
