[REL] BOSS for Oblivion

problems ...

I just got one of my installs up to speed with Nehrim - fresh install and ported only the installers.dat and similar files over to then read the BAIN archive the same as old install.

All good - no problems with bash, edit, obmm, etc.

BOSS not working right. When I have this clone/image active and update the masterlist I get this error:

Fallout:NV? I do have that installed on a completely seperate hard drive and I've not even launched it yet. I made sure he GUI of boss is set to Nehrim (it was set to NV) then tried several times to update masterlist and run boss.

Since I have BOSS committ rights I just used Tortoise to update latest Nehrim BOSS masterlist ... or I thought I did. Seems so on this end. I then copy and pasted over that msterlist to BOSS folder (who needs to download when I'm the author). But ... still doesn't work and still gives that error about NV.

What is going on? I searched the readme and found nothing about this error.

Yes as always all my games are installed outside UAC. OS is Win 7.

[edit] I found the error in the readme that then referenced the file permissions section. Problem is this makes no sense ... wrong file it is looking for and both the right and wrong file are outside of UAC areas of control. AND as I indicated above - I have downloaded NV but not ran it yet - I don't even have BOSS installed for it.

For some reason BOSS is searching a data folder other than the one that is in the same directory as it (and on a different hard drive).

I made sure Nerhim.esm is installed and Oblivion.esm is not.

[edit 2] FIXED IT

Set the GUI game to autodetect and it worked right. Thought about editing out above, but I can see how others might run into problem and if setting the game does not fix it then autodetect might.
Well, NV users were reporting that it kept getting detected as Nehrim, so it looks like there's some confusion on BOSS's part there, I'll check it out.
Got a question for ya.

How does BOSS figure out the version numbers of OBSE .dll plugins? I wanted to update mine so that BOSS can pick it out.

I think you need to set the version when you compile - there's options in the project properties for a version number, and you can also have a resource file. This is BOSS's, for example:

Because this thread is for Oblivion support and reports. BOSS supports Oblivion, Nehrim, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas. It's to lessen confusion about which game the thread is for.

You might want to note how people are reporting unknown mods in this thread, so that it is in a useful format for wrinklyninja to add quickly. If he has to go look for a mod, we are wasting his time.

PS: If you are using Better Cities, do note that Lynge's Thieves' Highway has been incorporated in that mod.

Yes, you did, but it's been added for as long as I can remember. I don't know why it's not being recognised for you, the filename of the plugin you linked me to is "Lynges_Thieves_Highway-10256.esp", so it should match that. Running BOSS with it installed works for me. :shrug:

Because "BOSS for Oblivion" isn't "Better Oblivion Sorting Software for Oblivion", but rather "the Better Oblivion Sorting Software thread for Oblivion". I decided to change it after we got a couple of Skyrim mod reports in the last one, to make things clearer.

How curious.

Well it's no biggie for me because it seems to be fine where I have it at the moment, next to the other thieves' highway mod.
I will check the esp name come to think of it, maybe I just hadn't noticed it was different or something... :)

Rerun the installer and select Oblivion. It won't clash as it's a completely different install for each game it works for.

Maybe I'm being too OCD, but it bothers me that that Sneaking Detection Recalibrated.esp doesn't have the SDR prefix that the other .esp files have. Same thing applies to the .dll OBSE plugin which is currently the lengthy "SneakingDetectionRecalibrated.dll". So I was thinking about renaming the files to something like:
SDR core.esp
SDR perks and patches (Oblivion).esp
SDR perks and patches (Nehrim).esp
SDR obse.dll

Then, if there were any other additions, they would follow the same pattern.

The next version has a lot of changes, so many that uninstalling the previous version and obse plug-in will be required. So if I'm going to make the change, now would be the time.

Any thoughts?

As an end-user, a consistent naming pattern appeals because it makes locating all the related files MUCH easier. Given what you say regarding the next release, the timing does indeed appear "right". (Not OCD: Logical.)

OBGE v3.1 and Liquid Water v2.1 are still in release candidate phase. Since BOSS doesn't work for them, I was wondering if there are any tips to make it work?

Despite my best guess at load ordering, my shaders are just causing strobe effects and my water is just showing up all black.
